I've always loved to listen to this wonderful piece and all of it's movements.  The first movement has a beautiful melodic line in the upper register of the guitar, which I find hard to bring out easily.  The sustain when playing beyond the 12th fret is weak and tuning up there is a bit off.  Not sure if that occurs more on these cedar top guitars; perhaps a spruce would work better for a piece like this.

    • Barney That sounded great, Barney! I thought the melody sang beautifully, and it did not sound out of tune to me. I've always wanted to play this, but I move on after giving it a go for a little bit. It's so challenging to play up high like that, and to arpeggiate those chords with a mix of open strings and high fretted notes. Much harder than it sounds.

    • Barney My favorite piece by Barrios and what I believe is his finest masterpiece.  The opening is so beautiful.  Nicely played and your warm tone is perfect for the opening.

This classic by Antonio Lauro was more difficult than I expected due to some of the quick chord changes required.  Alirio Diaz plays this piece at lightening speed, so once I have many more hours of practice on this, will I try to increase the tempo closer to the indicated "Allegro ritmico".

    • Barney Even a little slow, that sounds great, Barney! Playing anything that intricate and rhythmic is a real accomplishment. Good work.

Barney That was excellent, Barney. You have such wonderful technique (I am really envious) and musicality (I am really envious -wait - didn't I already say that?) Great job.

    • Barney Very nice.  And while many guitarists play it very fast, I like the slower pace.  Also, a little historical note, this beautiful piece was dedicated to Lauro's daughter Natalia.  I posted a photo of her as a child in one of my earlier posts during week one.
