Here is another milonga by Abel Carlevaro. This one was written sometime in the 1960s but was published in the 1990s when Carlevaro rediscovered his manuscript, made some revisions to it and then dedicated it to his wife, Vani. It is written in the classic A-B-A form in which the B section, the most challenging, expands on the main theme. The rhythm is derived from the classic milonga dance of the Rio de la Plata region. It should be noted that the complete name of Uruguay is the República Oriental del Uruguay which literally means the republic east of the Uruguayan river, thus the name Milonga Oriental.

Blaise Laflamme Thanks. Does this piece remind you a little Campo? It has that great bass line in the A sections, then morphs into an adventurous and challenging B section, which still needs a little work.

Dale Needles Great interpretation, and precise explanation of the word "Oriental". This region was disputed territory between Spain and Portugal. At some time, the Spanish territory was east of the Rio de La Plata, and the west was Portuguese domination. Poor Indians... with these crazy people fighting in their home.

Brouwer Tres Apuntes 1 Update
I believe this update is better, there are fewer mistakes and the ones that do exist seem to be less noticeable. I feel I still need to spend a lot more time trying to get control of dynamics and phrasing and technique. I doubt I will make another update of this piece for this challenge - this is a much longer project.

Jack Stewart Well done! It is coming along very nicely, and I really like this sketch. What a great driving rhythm and I Iove the dissonance! Also, as an "homenaje" to de Falla, you can really see echos of de Falla in it. This would make a great pairing with de Falla's "Homenaje a Debussy" which you play so well.

Jack Stewart Good work, Jack. I find it takes me a bit to get into that piece, but by about 30 seconds, I'm hooked by the angular rhythms.

Eric Phillips Thanks Eric. I really like this piece but it is difficult to get it to hold together. It easily falls into a series of disparate phrases. I feel I have gotten close but still need a lot more nuance (and technique) to really pull it off.
