(Old Submission Thread, 2020 - Mar 2021) CALL FOR RECORDINGS for upcoming Virtual Masterclass with Mircea Gogoncea

This thread has become too long, and is now therefore closed for submissions. Feel free to use the new thread to submit videos for future virtual masterclasses with me! Same rules as always apply.

Announcement:

Following the success of the first Community Virtual Masterclass on December 13th (<- click to watch), we are once again looking for submissions for the next Virtual Masterclass with me.

A new date and time will be announced once we have 2-3 suitable submissions. So please, go ahead and submit your videos to us by replying to this very thread!

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis (no deadline), so if yours doesn't make it into this upcoming masterclass, we hope to be able to use it in a future edition.

How Virtual Masterclasses work:

  1. You send in a video of yourself performing a piece, movement of a piece, or even a passage from a piece.
  2. Once we have 2-3 submissions, I will run a live stream specifically for you, giving you tailor-made advice for your own playing!

It's like if we were doing an online lesson - except others get to see it and hopefully also benefit from the advice I'm giving you. Here is an example!

It's basically an exact replica of an in-person masterclass: you play for a teacher (in this case through a recording), and they work with you while others watch.

Why?

  • Have you been watching the live streams and wishing you could ask me a question relating to your playing specifically? Now is your chance!
  • Share your music with others and grow by watching them, too.
  • It's basically a free online lesson for you!

What must you know?

  • It can be something you recorded specifically for this, or a preexisting recording you already have.
  • All levels are welcome! My advice will be tailored to your specific level, and in the past, we've worked with everything from beginners to full-on concert players.
  • You must be fine with other people watching the video and your performance, as it will be embedded into the live stream itself. I will start and stop it as if we were doing an actual, in-person masterclass.
  • I usually spend about 20-35 minutes per submission.
  • While I will try to feature everyone, if we get a lot of submissions, your video might not be immediately featured. In that case however, we'll run more of these very soon!

Where and what to submit?

  • Submit right here, by replying to this thread!
  • You can either attach a video directly from your computer, or paste a link to a YouTube video
  • (If you opt to use a YouTube video, it can be unlisted - no need to make it public!)
  • Please also attach a link to the sheet music.

Filippos Polykarpou Nice! But (unfortunalely) I've always been too lazy to work with Una Limosnita. Perhaps I will work on it because of your performance. You ran into my ambition 😉🙂

Marek Tabisz By the way - are you attending Martin's Recording Academy? It's too complicated for me. Most often I record with a phone placed on a cigar box .... For Masterclass with Mircea I asked my son to record with a camera 😄

Filippos Polykarpou nice, I love that piece and I am working on that, or more specifically on tremolo in general (then to be applied to that piece and others...), as shown in the recent Excerpt Masterclass with Rene Izquierdo here on tonebase.

Dear Mircea, this is the first time i have seen your announcement for the upcoming livestream-Madterclass.

It is a big pleasure for me to be a Tonebase-member an watch all those great advices ! The upcoming Event is tonight - and I am a litte sad, the time now for me is too short to make a recording of one the three pieces you will work tonight.

    QUESTION:

-Do you give an advice what pieces will be worked on in the next Masterclass ?

-or can I send a video with a from me free chosen piece at any time I want here in this Forum ?

    Thank you.

    Best Regards

    Olli

Olli Hi Olli, the choice of my submission (Cardoso's "Milonga") was my own choice. So all participants were not sending in their videos refering to a "call for recording a specific piece xy" or a pre-defined program for the workshop, but vice versa: the workshop's program is built upon our freely chosen submissions. And in my opinion it is great, because we can send in a video of exactly that piece that we are working on or interested in. It is tailor made for us. So I am very excited to listen to and watch Mircea's comments and suggestions, for the other participants and for my own video. It is a great format, thanks to tonebase and in particular Mircea!

Robert Hi Robert, thank you very much for this Information. This is a great thing. I am "new" on tone base und there are many things to read in the community - and everything is written in english...keep on playing and have a nice day. Best Regards Olli

Olli nice video (and interesting to have that faster version compared to mine; seems that the Milonga attracted additional submissions of that piece 🙂 - watch/listen to Gokce's submission, too)

  • Hello, this is my Milonga recording. I was unaware of the event until this morning, and I had a little time for recording. It was a busy day, and I've just broke my thumb nail yesterday. So, it is not my best performance (and hair) and I have so many excuses for that :)

Gokce Turkmendag nice (and I think that it is more important to have a nice piece and sound than nice hair - at least on this platform 😉)

I'm sorry that I suddenly "disappeared" from the chat yesterday. My internet suddenly broke down near Bach (good that I can watch the masterclass later from the recording) ... I didn't manage to thank Mircea for valuable comments and tips, and chat participants for their support. A man realizes his shortcomings only when he looks at the recording and listens to smarter than himself 🙂 It's funny that many years of teaching others and neglecting his own playing lead inevitably to becoming a "theoretical" guitarist more than a practical one --- ha ha ha! 😄

  • Ok here's my submission for the next one Giuliani Op 48 nos 1 and 2 (ignore 5 since we already did it lol) If there is not time to get to mine don't worry it's fine since I already had a turn :)
