Barrios - Medallón Antiguo measures 1-32 (Apr 15)
I'm starting another piece by Barrios that is completely new to me. The title means "Antique Medallion" but I don't know why it is called that. Under the title, the score says to play it "in the manner of the ancient vihuelists" which I take to mean that it has the same vocal quality of the great vihuela music from the Renaissance period, with a very rich polyphony.
This video is just an initial playing of measures 1-32 (the A and B sections). I am leaving the C section (mm 33-45) out for now, as it is the most difficult section, in the key of B major.
Since recording this, I have already made some fingering changes, which I'll use in my next update.

Moyses Lopes Thanks, Moyses. Yes, it a string vibrating. To stop it, I changed my fingering in that measure (and I like the new fingering better as well).

Barrios - Medallón Antiguo measures 1-32 Apr 16 update
I have changed some of the fingerings since yesterday. Now I'd like to try to get the C section under my fingers. It's definitely the most difficult part.

Continuing with Carlevaro's studies, here are two of my favorites, Microestudios 13 & 17. As you can hear from these two pieces, along with other studies that I have posted this week, that Carlevaro's musical tonal palette is very recognizable.

Dale Needles These are interesting, Dale, and well played. They seem much different from the Preludes (especially #3, Campo - which I had played at some point in my past). These are a new side of Carlevaro for me. Thanks.

Jack Stewart Carlevaro compositions do vary and I agree these Microestudios differ from his Preludios tonal language, particularly Campo and Tamboriles which draw upon traditional Uruguayan rhythms and more recognizable melodies. However, I plan to post in the coming weeks one of the Preludios in which I think you will see a close tonal link to these Microestudios.

Brouwer Pieza sin Titulo #2 update
This is much closer to what I envision for this piece - though I bungled the recap a bit. All in all I think this works pretty well.
