I was hoping to beat Eric to the Scarlatti pieces! I started looking at this a day or so ago, it's one I used to play many years ago but haven't looked at it in a long while. Still a bit unsteady but another one I'll keep looking at. I'm also working on a couple of the Schubert  /Mertz pieces among others so looks like it's going to be a busy month!

Eric Phillips PS - it's the easiest one in the set! (I haven't attempted any of the others!)

  • Day 3 and I've gotten through the piece.  Still a lot of bumps, but I still have a couple weeks to smooth them out.  My attempt to play Gershwin's Piano Prelude Number 2, tr.anscribed for Guitar

Paul Kennedy Very impressive Paul. That piece is quite challenging and you have a good grasp of it. Looking forward to your progress. Ive always liked that prelude (There is much of Gershwin I like). Years ago I did my own transcription of it though I don't know where it is now.

    • Paul Kennedy Nice job, Paul! Such a great change of pace from what we usually hear (and I usually play). Somewhere, I have a book of Gershwin tunes arranged for classical guitar that I'll have to go dig up. I remember playing Summertime for a masterclass with Carlos Barbosa-Lima back in college (he told me it was fine, but a bit boring). Great choice (and not boring at all)!

    • Eric Phillips thanks Eric.  I think I have the same book, but it does not have the preludes in it.  The only other transcription I found (besides this one) was by Jorge Morel; a little more difficult for me.

    • Paul Kennedy Thanks for sharing this Gershwin transcription.  I really like the arrangement and am I correct that it was arranged by the Russian guitarist, Vladimir Andreevich Maksimenko?

    • Dale Needles Sad to say I do not know.  I believe  В. Максименко was the arranger but do not speak Russian well enough to translate.

  • So this is the recording for day 4. Just the intro and first verse. Still a lot of work to do, but happy with the result I guess. Oh the first chord is just a mistake, I was too lazy to edit.

Hélène Beaulieu Very nice, Helene (excuse the missing accents - English keyboard). And what an interesting guitar you have! I can't quite make out how many strings it has - it looks to me like nine, but I may be miscounting. Can I ask who the luthier is? Thanks.
