Welcome to tonebase!

Hi Everyone, James here in the UK, just signed up. I've been playing for about 10 years, but really ramped things up 3 - 4 years ago. ABRSM grades left me feeling bruised and battered, so I new my technique was not solid. I want to go back and correct all of my self taught madness. My aim is to focus on playing well, not just because a piece of paper says I did, but because it really felt that way. As a self taught guitarist, I love having something like this as a hand-rail for me. I'm really excited about being here and look forward to the discussions. As for food, well I'm from the UK, so anything brown usually features. 

Hi I'm Helana from the UK originally from Grimsby but now live in Horncastle, didn't move far. I live with my husband and my 7 month old daughter. My favourite food has to be fish and chips. 

I've made a decision to learn the guitar this year hopefully tonebase will help. I know a bit already just need to practice more.

Hello community, this is Jason from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I love fried chicken, beef rendang, and laksa (and poutine as well!).

As I recently started playing guitar again after a 6-year break, I'm working on practicing nice and easy pieces I used to play - including Valse Francaise and Un dia de Noviember.

I'm looking forward to the recorded masterclasses and lessons that may boost my interest and passion for practicing certain pieces - I believe Tonebase will save my time and effort in finding helpful resources. I also see many events happening and would love to join them once I get used to Tonebase :)

Hello I am Karen from Nebraska. I don’t think we really have a “from Here” food. I like far too much to pick a favorite anyway! I suppose our only regional food is a Runza. They are pretty good too. 
 

I started playing around 9 y.o. When I asked for guitar lessons and thinking I would learn like how to play popular music, got Frederick Noad plopped in front of me. Playing a large guitar was always painful and so I didn’t practice as well as I should and I’d say my education was a bit uneven anyway but I played about 8 years and then college happened. It wasn’t touched much for around 7 years and there were no teachers (and no internet!) Then I moved somewhere I found a teacher. But he moved after just a couple years. Again I fell into non-playing. Plus I had two jobs quite a while that left no time. 
 

Fast forward another 15 or so years and one day during the pandemic I thought “I’m a grown person who could buy a smaller more comfortable guitar”. Plus while there are no local teachers there is a ton of helpful resources on the internet. So I went and got a student 3/4 Cordoba that day to see if I liked the size. I did and ordered a Kenny Hill New World Player 615mm and sold the Cordoba to an 8 year old for cheap because no kid should have to put up with a full sized guitar. I have three guitars. The small scale NWP, a beautiful old concert Wallo and my childhood Yamaha the ubiquitous guitar of the 70s. 
 

After 22 months of consistent playing now and starting what felt like scratch I can say I have returned to an intermediate level and with far better technique than previously.  I actually enjoy practicing beyond words. It drives out all cares and worries for those blissful moments. 
 

I’m working on Ojos Brujos by Brouwer and Inspiração by Garoto plus a lot of Maria Linnemann because it’s so preeetty. 
 

I played in front of some friends for the first time at Easter and didn’t completely fall apart from nerves! 
 

My personal  rules for myself  right now are play what I love and and is accessible. Go a measure at a time. Don’t freak out when you see barres. Practice in very small chunks of time (I have a tear in my left rotator cuff that has plagued me almost the whole time but has improved to the point I don’t  *have* to have surgery quite yet). 
 

I know. That’s a novel. Thanks for your patience if you actually read this far. Lol. 

Hello, my name is Mauro, aka Maurengo. I’m originally from Brazil but I’ve been in Europe for the past 30 years, the last 20 of which in Dublin, Ireland. I came across tonebase through a friend ( Moyses Lopes ) and I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience. Hope to learn lots with so many talented musicians.

I am Bart Versteeg and live in the Netherlands. I played a lot when I was young, stopped when I was 35.  Now, 25 years later I did a restart. I have a great teacher (Yes, you Francesco Chávez!) and am on a intermediate level again. Struggling with La Catedral, Asturias, Bachs Lute Suite no. 2 , Pujols Verde Alma and Darragh ONeills Cocobolo.

since 3 weeks I join a mandolin ensemble and orchestra.

I received a lifetime membership as a farewell gift from a national society in which I was a board member.
