Welcome to tonebase!

Hey everyone - this is Igor from tonebase 🙂!

It's such a pleasure to welcome you as one of the founding members of the tonebase community. Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:

  • Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
  • What are you currently working on?
  • What are you hoping to get out of this community?

I'll go first:

  • While it's hard to pinpoint where exactly I'm from, lol, I just go with Bavaria Germany, and as favorite food, I'd choose Beer (surprise, surprise - closely followed by "Schweinshaxe" - Bavarian Pork-knuckle, which is quite delicious, but sooo heavy that it feels weird calling it favorite food)
  • Trying to keep my Aranjuez in the fingers, even though certainly don't have that much time to practice as during college days...
  • I hope we can facilitate authentic and interesting discussions around playing, learning, teaching, performing the guitar as well as all adjacent topics like concert prep, professional development, auditioning etc...

Now over to you (after some participation from our tonebase team members!)

    Hi Everybody!

My name is Marques, I'm from Venezuela, and my favorite food is spaguetti.

I'm currently learning about tuning on the guitar (in fact, I'm going to see a course on tonebase about it).

I hope from this community that I manage to get good feedback and be able to find solutions to my questions. I do a ton!!!

Hi everyone, I am Wayne. I am from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. It is just off the coast of Venezuela. I love peleau which is a local dish that is similar to paela in some parts of Latin America. I am a rank beginner at the guitar so I am not working on anything. I have to work out which part of the instrument is up (LOL). I love the sound of this magical instrument, especially its rich and beautiful tone. I am a senior in retirement. I'd like to see how far I can get with this instrument. Also, I hope that learning this instrument will strengthen my hands. Someone at Tonebase can encourage me and teach me to play Tarrega's Recuerdos de la Alhambra or convince me that the piece is too ambitious.

    Welcome to Tonebase Wayne !
Tarrega’s Recuerdos is an ambitious aim!

on your musical journey to that work you could visit some other Recuerdos, such as the ones from from Merlin (especially the Evocacion from his Suite Recuerdos) and Diaz (who wrote an extraordinary beautiful piece with that name for his parents).

    happy playing!

    Hi everyone,

Carlo here, originally from Brazil, now living in Norwich, England. I am a scientist working with complex sets of proteins.

Well, I love a Brazilian style of food which comes from the beautiful state of Minas Gerais. This food is called 'Comida Mineira' and is what I miss the most from Brazil (although I am from Sao Paulo, just to the south of Minas Gerais).

I have studied guitar from an early age, but then stopped completely to pursue my career, then some five years ago I found again my passion for the guitar and decided to start some training again. But now I feel the need for some guidance and feedback.

After starting to watch the videos, i thought it would be a good idea to start with Sor study op.6  n.3, let's see how I can improve my slurs.

I hope to be able to post a video of this piece soon and get some feedback from the community on opportunities for improvement.

Looking forward to meet you all and share some experiences.

  • Hi,

My name is Kuorong Chiang. I came to US from Taiwan in 1984. Now I live in Los Angeles after retiring from a computer software job a couple years ago. I like all kinds of Chinese food, nice steak, and of course beer :-)

I started playing guitar in 1975, mainly on chords and singing. However I quickly got hooked to classical guitar and never stopped playing since then. Due to study and work (and family ...), I was never able to spend much time on playing guitar. I joined several online guitar groups over the years and benefited from advices of many experts. I co-founded a band "La Migo" in 2006, playing electric guitar. In addition to singing Taiwanese campus songs, I also wrote tens of original songs (all in Chinese except for one in English). For classical guitar, currently I'm working on a few Barrios pieces, etudes by Brouwer, and polishing a couple Villa Lobos. I almost always practicing tremolo when watching streaming shows.

I joined Tonebase today and started watching 10 Sketches by Assad and Koyunbaba by Aniello Desiderio (whose musicality/interpretation blew me away). I bought the sheet music many years ago but didn't finish learning it. This time I'll try harder. I like to broaden my repertoire and of course improve my skills and musicality. I was impressed by the two classes I've been watching and I think I'll stick around after the free trial.

Kuorong Chiang Hi there, great to have you here! You are living in the epicenter of tonebase, where most of our productions are happening! I visited LA for the first time a view weeks back, during that time I got hit by the first hurricane in years, an earthquake and a broken toe! I don't blame LA for it, but I'll think twice about coming back, haha!

Aniello's course on Koyunbaba is so inspiring, I head the pleasure recording  that production with him this in Germany! The range of his dynamic is just unreal!

We're happy to have you here, and I hope to see you in many more upcoming streams!

Hi I'm Roger, Started playing guitar at the age 13yrs old. I studied classical guitar for two years at Rhodes university South Africa. However I did stop playing classical guitar for many years, after moving to Germany then on to Scotland. However I'm returning to my roots.. and needing to relearn some of the wonderful pieces I had the pleasure of performing a long time ago! I did the quiz and discovered I was at level 11... I did not expect that... lol

Anyway I'm looking for good practice and performance tips and the best ways to overcome stage fright.

    Hello everyone

I’m Johannes and I am from Copenhagen, Denmark. My favorite Danish food is “Forloren hare.” It means fake hare but it is just meat loaf with brown sauce and potatoes.

I am currently working on Capricho Árabe and I am hopping to get a lot of useful insight, tips and discussions with this community.

    • Johannes Welcome, Johannes! I have watched the lessons on the Capricho by Tariq Harb and Zoran Dukic and they are excellent. I hope you consider posting videos of your progress in the Practice Diary.

I also suggest that you consider joining the monthly challenges. Right now, we are in the middle of a Fernando Sor challenge, so if you play any Sor, feel free to join in.

    Hi all! I'm Putra here:

    • I was originally born and raised in Indonesia. But I've lived in the United States for 12 years now, and I'm working a full-time job in the Boston area. My favorite food is fish (wherever I can find it, and in any cooked style from steam, grilled, deep-fried, or anything you name it!).
    • I am currently working on Petzold's Minuet in G major and G minor. I'm trying to do my own transcription from the piano / harpsichord score for the guitar.
    • I hope to enhance my playing skill, while making connections with others during my musical journey. Looking forward to participating in some of the community events and live events as well (if I can make the time)...

  • Hi, I'm Steve from Brooklyn NY!  Since I'm also determined to do more cooking for myself, my favorite recipe TODAY is Spicy Honey Chicken With Broccoli, from Yasmin Fahr of the NY Times (link on request).
I've played guitar since I was 17--was told it would help me get the girls.  Didn't help much with that, but found I loved the instrument.  But really only dabbled until I retired (from dentistry--hey, now I can grow my nails!), and at the tender age of 69 a couple of years back got a teacher.  I'm on the hundred-year plan polishing the HVL Suite Popularire Bresilienne (I'd better hurry), while slipping in the occasional Brouwer and Jorge Morel.
I hope to be exposed to more repertoire and get other perspectives on practice, technique and attitude!

    Hello,

Jesse from Fort Wayne Indiana.  In Fort Wayne there is not really much great food (salt and pepper are the only popular spices here), but I love to travel and consider myself a foodie.

I am currently working on Villa Lobos Etude 1, I love complex arpeggios, and a fingerstyle arrangement of the intro for Gravity Falls (something for the kids).

I hope to get better connected to a classical guitar community that I can learn from and develop friendships within.  Sweetwater is located in Fort Wayne and despite there being a strong music scene here, there is almost no classical guitar community.

Looking forward to getting to know people!
