Hello tonebuddies!
Let's dive into a bit of musical show-and-tell! You’re invited to share a picture of what’s on your music stand!
Whether it's the sheet music of a challenging piece, a beloved etude, or perhaps a well-worn method book, your stand is a reflection of your current musical journey. Snap a photo of your music stand setup and share it with the community. Are there any quirky accessories, favorite pencils, or lucky charms that accompany you during practice?
Let's celebrate what you’re practicing, the notes scribbled in the margins, and the marks of a well-practiced passage. Your stand setup might just inspire someone else's practice space makeover!
So, grab your camera and take a snapshot of what’s on your stand!

Steve Price I also try to get my scores in PDF format for my iPad. I confess that using the page turner (on my teachers recommendation I use Blue Turn) I'm still missing the dang button with my foot, and I feel my blood pressure rising as I approach the end of a page. Do I look down? Will I lose my place? Yeah, I need the agida.
I only occasionally need to use my scanner.Like -

Steve Price Hi Steve, I have a printer at home so what I do is to scan them as pdf and send it to myself. Normally the size would be ok. For those that are smaller size print that I need to convert, I’ll still scan them but on my ipad, I’ll do a screenshot and crop them then stretch them to the desired size.
Then I’ll select the number of screenshots in the photo app and from there I’ll select to print as pdf. Instead of printing to a printing, I’ll save it on my icloud.
But these days most sell their scores in PDF editions, but occasionally some has password locked which forescore do not support, for those pdf, I’ll print as pdf and save it as another pdf without password to upload to forscore. Hope this helps!

Steven Bornfeld Lol, I totally get the anxiety and the blood pressure thing. Mine is mostly when I'm recording a clean take and nearing the end of a piece and it usually leads to beefing something in the last measure. I actually received my foot switch today and thankfully it feels pretty natural, but then I played drums for a lot of years so my coordination isn't too bad. This might be the one thing in guitar that I'm good at, lol.

don Thanks for the information, Don. And I REALLY appreciate the tip about password-protected scores. I have multiple scores that are a pain since the publisher used my really long email address as the password. I've been creating new PDFs for all of them so thanks a lot.

Steve Price What is this "clean take" of which you speak? Asking for a friend.

Blaise Laflamme I am totally sold. The main thing holding me back was scanning in music. When I was doing it years ago it was a flatbed scanner, importing files, converting file types, etc. so I was surprised how easy it is now. I started using Mobilesheets to organize and annotate music and being able to color code markings is really helpful. My previous tablet had a 10.1" screen which made it hard to read, but a local retailer happened to have a really good deal on a 14.6" screen. The only thing I need to figure out is a good workflow to back everything up.
I really appreciate your input since it helped me pull the trigger.
The only problem I didn't think about was having to share my footswitch, lol.

Steve Price I'm glad you found your way through this, it's a great workflow to have in 2024! I can't imagine about going back, so great to have multiple layers for different fingering use cases or to do revision when working with a composer, or an editor, and exporting score with annotations. Haha... you could train your dog to switch pages right in time!

Blaise Laflamme Haha yes I have this problem too.
I am completely wedded to iPad with Forscore now for a couple of years. I avoided it for years not wanting to hassle with yet another piece of technology. but I have no regrets, and it's pretty easy to take all my music everywhere!

Blaise Laflamme years ago, I started a meme with the hashtag #cantpractice on FB and Instagram. it's all in fun, but it started because one of the cats needed attention during a session. for the last few years it's been mostly dog related 'interruptions'. Search for #cantpractice in FB and IG. submit your own and use the tag! here's from this morning:
#cantpractice: Can't practice, I HAVE TO GO OUT!!

Dave McLellan Good idea! I usually go out with the dog between two sessions, as of now it fits both of our routines!

Blaise Laflamme very often it's the same. a good solid walk after a session feels really good on the back.

Dave McLellan absolutely, and my back is far better since I stopped using a footstool many years ago!

Blaise Laflamme me too! I haven't used a footstool since about 1987. I've tried many over the years and have finally stuck with the Sageworks support.
Pilates also is a big help!

Dave McLellan I've also settled on the Sagework a few years ago after a too long break of music! Then a few weeks ago I bought Tomas Viloteau's «LeSupport» and I'm now totally addicted to it.

Hi everyone, great to see everyone’s stands. I’m a beginner. Currently working my way through Giulinani’s Op. 50. 32 Etudes. I use a Korg metronome and I track my practice time across technique, scales, ear training and music in a time tracking app (to keep me honest and motivated and consistent). I also keep a journal and visual timer to track how long I practice per sitting.

Blaise Laflamme I tried three dedicated music practice apps, but they all came up short in one way or another. So I use Atracker in iOS. It’s highly customizable. For example, I’ve created tags for technique, scales, music, theory and stretching. Then I set up daily and weekly goals against the tags and then I simply track my time during practice.

LennyB I wish that were that were true. I picked up guitar very late in life, at the age of 50. Progress is slow and painful. But I’m learning to be patient and to enjoy the process.
