SUGGEST A PIECE: "Learn With Me" - Sight Reading Workshop no. 4 (Jan 23)
Alright, everyone - by popular demand, we are doing it I am going to learn a piece in real time on tonebase Live, and in the process, show you my method for doing so.
To start with, I have picked Fernando Sor's 24 Leçons Progressives Op. 31, no. 23, "Mouvement de prière religiense", as the subject of this livestream.
However! If you would like to suggest a different piece for me to concentrate on, instead of or in addition to my idea above, please use this thread to do so!
Unlike a typical sight reading challenge, I would need to vet this from a number of different perspectives:
- It must be relatively easy, because I want you to be able to follow along, and possibly eventually learn the piece yourself, if you like it!
- It must be from the Western "common practice era" - so that I can show you my method for learning a type of music that you are likely to want to play, yourself.
To comply with this, feel free to suggest anything from the classical, romantic, or early 20th century guitar repertoire - no transcriptions or early music please, just so we don't have to spend most of the livestream talking about different versions, keys, etc.
It must also be something I haven't played before. (Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of "learn with me"!) Since you can't possibly know whether I've played something or not however, the easiest thing would be to just suggest away, and I'll let you know!
Here is the sheet music for Sor's piece. Go to page 13 for the movement we will be looking at.
If you'd like to suggest a different piece, please also attach the score or send an IMSLP link!

Great! I like the live streams that I can use as practice time too
.
As suggestions for something that you haven't played but people here would probably want to learn, about something by Brouwer or Takemitsu (not Beatles Takemitsu
)? I imagine there are one or two easy or short enough pieces that you haven't tackled? Although I could also imagine that someone like you would've already sightread all of Brouwer's guitar music.
I expect there may be less interest if we all have to buy the score - do you know of a way to share it without there being copyright issues?

Hi, Mircea. I´m watching yesterday´s lesson. You have just mentioned your session on fingering "Infuse.." Well, man, that lesson was AWESOME. Since I saw it, I decided to make first a mental idea of the sound I want to get and only then make decisions on fingering, based on that idea. So, thank you.
Now, a thought about measure 15 (Sor op 31 nº 23) and slurs: I think many times Sor´s slurs must be understood as an indication to play legato, not being necessary to do the actual hammer on or pull off. Your solution (playing the second note a little bit softer) works perfectly.
Great lesson on fingerings! Thanks.
