  • Here's the last 3 measures of Koshkin #1.  Just about everything about this is challenging for me.  The timing, making the slurs more audible, playing piano, and the fingerings are all a little hard for me.  (I did decide that the written fingerings were still the easiest option) I'm playing super slowly with the metronome set for eighth notes.

I'm doing a little experiment in practicing for just a few minutes at a time.  I'm often pressed for time, so I thought I would just concentrate on a few measures, so that's why the video with just 3 measures.

Elizabeth Uyehara Yeah! Congratulations, wonderful and dedicated progress, absolutely fantastic to keep updated in such a detailed way, thank you so much! Those studies are really not easy, not even the first one, so you really made it a challenge for you! I'd recommend to pluck the e-flat and the c in the bass, the lines are probably indicating that you can use the same finger and slide with the finger down, but not played as true glissando!

    • Martin Ah, thank you!  I noticed that Marina didn't even use the same finger going from C# to C.  Hmm, might have to try that.

Elizabeth Uyehara That's what I did! The stretch between 3 and 4 might be a little hard, but ultimately I enjoyed the added legato!

Martin Thanks Martin!  I only have time for the challenge deadline to work on #7.  But I would like to look at this #10 later on, when I can spend the time needed for this tough one.

    • Martin I was wondering how you're using finger 3 in the last chord of mesure 12 since it seems to still be an A flat, so I suspect you're just using 1 from the barré, or 1-3-2-4 seems to be a good choice if you're not using a barré there.

Blaise Laflamme Oh--- Ooooohhhhh. I did miss A flat, good catch! In that tempo I'd try to avoid barre chords if I can, they cost too much time to set up and release!

    • Martin  am working on this one as well! But time is limited. I don’t want to just  touch a few pieces and then move on. These studies take time and effort. It’s a very challenging challenge, this one….

And here we go, getting my feet wet with Study No.9! Day one passed without any epiphanies, there's probably a lot to say about left hand stability and barre performance, but since it's already late I went with the path of least resistance here!

    • Martin thank you. It’s very instructive. I still have a problem, because I don’t hear the  triplets where they are written. They sound like a division of sixteenth notes . Is that what the composer meant?

joosje This piece is still very new to me, so I when I look for a fret I might have missed the rhythmical details! It is a common problem with quarter triplets that they rather sound two dotted quarter and one regular quarter as in “1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2”! Will definitely work on that flow a little longer!
