Hi, folks! I guess that's my last post of 'Scherzino' in this challenge. Not because the work is completely done, but because this piece needs more time to mature in my hands and my head. This week (Wednesday, to be exact) I had an accident with my thumb nail, in the comments I will post some photos of the accident and the repair. Maybe it will be useful for someone.

Moyses Lopes yes, I noticed that you only covered part of the nail. That makes sense.

Moyses Lopes Wow!  This is great Moyses.  Very clean playing (with effective muting of unwanted ringing of strings, etc and beautiful tone.  Love it!

You are lucky the nail break was more horizontal.  I had some vertical breaks some time back and the growth never catches up properly to the healthy nail.  Very annoying.

I do you same repair as you; but if really bad, I have the nail salon do a professional wrap on the single nail.

Moyses Lopes Very Nice, Moyses. Even with the simpler pieces I play, I don't think they're ever really completely done.

Steve Price I also think and feel the same, they are work in progress indefinitely as I apply to everything I play what I've learned or learning... a perpetual refinement 😅

Moyses Lopes  A very playful and spritely scherzino.  A convincing performance!  Bravo!

Moyses Lopes it looks like the repair is doing its job.  I always head to my nail salon when that happens. They do a dipped “powder” repair- and only on as much nail as needed.

How soon do these weeks come around! I was hoping to do more on Week 3 and here we are in week 4 already. I had a couple of hours spare this morning so managed to do a couple of recordings. Here is the first. It's a simple but lovely little piece by the English guitarist and composer and teacher Yvonne Bloor. It's called Chanson and was written in about 2010. in addition to the squeaks from the fingerboard the audio is enhanced in places with the sound of a creaking door.

I messed up the coda originally and rerecorded it and added it to the end of the original recording - you can hear the gap!

Derek What a beautiful piece Derek! Very nicely done, and I didn't even notice the creaking door!

David Krupka Thanks David. She has written some nice pieces - not a lot of published music but I discovered her from one of her pieces that is in the Trinity College of London grade exams. I bought the music a couple of years ago but not really learnt any of the pieces but coincidently about a year ago (which was after I bought the book) I started having lessons with a young guitarist who had just graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music and he had studied alongside her there - she was a mature student doing a masters degree. He made a nice recording when he was a student of the other piece that I play of hers called Promise. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQRk0NoDG1M&pp=ygUTcHJvbWlzZSBzYW0gcm9kd2VsbA%3D%3D). I'll try to resurrect it this coming week and post my version!

Here's the second recording today. My original understanding of the challenge was that we played the music of our own country. Not sure if that's correct or not but my mother in law was Austrian so that's my excuse for including a piece by the early 20th century Austrian composer Alfred Uhl. It's from '10 Pieces for Guitar' dedicated to Karl Scheit. I used to play this many years ago but I've decided to revisit it as a study piece as I think it's useful for practising various techniques.

As in the previous piece, I messed up the end and rerecorded it but this time I don't think you can hear the join :-)
