  • I'm not sure I'll have time to record and post, before the Watch Party, the last Canadian composer I wanted to share with you (with this already started long weekend)... but I'll share another video I produced this week for Roque Carbajo's Quebec Suite, he posted on his YT channel a few hours ago. This is the third piece dedicated to Robert Charlebois, one of our giants of song here in Quebec... Un 25 Juin!

Blaise Laflamme You can take your bow when you've finished playing, and the rest of us are applauding!

Blaise Laflamme Wow! That was amazing and beautiful, Blaise. Your playing was impeccable in tone, technique and phrasing. This is a wonderful piece.

Btw, what is the significance of June 25 (please excuse my ignorance if this is obvious)

    • Jack Stewart Thank you Jack! 🙏 It's an indirect reference to June 24, the Quebec National Day, where Charlebois took part many times and he's also a recipient of the «Artisan de la Fête Nationale» award.

Blaise Laflamme That's interesting, Blaise, but that date is significant for another reason too: Charlebois was born on June 25, 1944!

    • David Krupka well... thank you David, this is probably the MAIN reason for the title!! 😮

Blaise Laflamme Bravíssimo, ragazzo, you rock! Great performance, the piece is very beautiful and you played perfectly, I felt like I was sitting in Carnegie Hall (or any other music temple).  As Eric Phillips , I bow humbly...

Blaise Laflamme Wow Blaise!!  What a great piece and your playing was superb in all the aspects the matter.  This must be a fine example of Carlevaro LH technique in action -- no noise!

Thanks for posting this;  Loved it!

    • Barney Thank you very much Barney! I don't know if it's a great example of Carlevaro's LH technique but playing «squeakless» is for sure part of my musical aesthetic. As you can notice I had to use the index finger side to minimize noise when doing some glissandos. 😅

  • For my final contribution to this month's challenge, I am posting a beautiful Pequeño Canción by Abel Carlevaro.  This little jewel of a piece was originally written around 1935 and revised in 1943.

Dale Needles That IS a nice little jewel Dale! Good to know even the greats revise their pieces after many years! Thanks for sharing it.

    • Blaise Laflamme Thanks, just came across this piece last week and thought it would be a nice addition to the challenge.  Hard to believe he wrote this originally at the age of 19.

Dale Needles Such a beautiful piece, Dale! Thank you for this mining work with the Carlevaro compositions! I have never asked before but I guess you were born in Uruguay, don't do? You play like a 'gaucho'! Saludos!
