Welcome to tonebase!

Hey everyone - this is Igor from tonebase 🙂!

It's such a pleasure to welcome you as one of the founding members of the tonebase community. Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:

  • Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
  • What are you currently working on?
  • What are you hoping to get out of this community?

I'll go first:

  • While it's hard to pinpoint where exactly I'm from, lol, I just go with Bavaria Germany, and as favorite food, I'd choose Beer (surprise, surprise - closely followed by "Schweinshaxe" - Bavarian Pork-knuckle, which is quite delicious, but sooo heavy that it feels weird calling it favorite food)
  • Trying to keep my Aranjuez in the fingers, even though certainly don't have that much time to practice as during college days...
  • I hope we can facilitate authentic and interesting discussions around playing, learning, teaching, performing the guitar as well as all adjacent topics like concert prep, professional development, auditioning etc...

Now over to you (after some participation from our tonebase team members!)

  • Hi everyone, my name is António Fernandes

    • I´m from Porto, Portugal - land of the infamous Francesinha which is a croque madame on stereoids.
    • The pandemic of 2020 made me change my career as a music concert booker and I decided to learn guitar again. It´s a hobby for me and I started by learning the works of Garoto, a composer from Brazil, contemporany of Villas Lobos and that has simple yet challenging compositions to play.
    • I´m hoping to find lessons here and interesting music to learn and play on my guitar. Always happy to chat and help people develop. It´s important to be curious!

    • António Fernandes olà Antonio. Enjoy Tonebase. Don’t hesitate to join the challenges. They are a wonderful way to expand your skills, technique and repertoire. I don’t know Garoto. You should play some composition of his for a masterclass with Mircea. Would be much appreciated. We are alle in search of new repertoire …

    Hi tonebase peeps,

I'm from all over California, growing up and living in different cities and towns between Los Angeles and Oakland.  My favorite food from there is my mom's homemade pumpkin soup in the Fall and fresh picked wild blackberries in Summer.  I am just starting to learn guitar and have no formal musical background, so I'm working on establishing a solid foundation of basic theory and techniques.  Tonebase is a cool concept.  I'm hoping to learn from the community and maybe someday contribute as well.

    • I am from Busan South Korea, currently living in Bundang. My favorite food is kimchi as most Koreans would do.
    • I took private lessons about two years in total but my right hand went wrong since I began this instrument alone. I couldn't fix my finger problem with teachers. Now I am visiting a center where I can get advice for a short period of time and think about me myself. So I practice Guilani 120 studies or Some other simple etudes to kick my boredom out.
    • Before I got here, I could find another free place where I can meet isolated amateur guitarists but I wanted lessons that are well explained and I subscribed to Tonebase. I payed for it though I don't imagine music along with money. Anyway, I will try to focus on here and want to spread my conversation with current environment around me with music.

    Hey all!

    • I'm from Syria originally, currently living in Stockholm, Sweden.
    • I like to improvise with both music and food!
    • I taught my self to play guitar and kept on doing that until I moved to Sweden where i started to learn about music theory and notation 🤨
    • I joined Tonebase because it's worth it. I like the interpretations for the pieces and the possible fingerings they add to these pieces.
    • I'm hoping I could contribute as well someday.

Hi everybody in the guitar world

    • I'm from Switzerland, and because of that I feel obliged to mention Cheese Fondue as my favorite (winter-) dish; but don't worry, I really love it! 🙂
    • I play acoustic guitar since my youth, mostly steel string, sometimes nylon, and this on rather modest level and in various styles. No experience with classical guitar repertoire - but I love and admire it. That's why I, in retirement since some years, currently meander around on this website. I'm impressed by the fantastic content, both in terms of music and lessons, very inspiring! We'll see whether something will further develop in and with me...
    • Tonebase is and will become really relevant for me if it can wake up a strong motivation to also expand my active music playing in this classical guitar direction and will help me to joyfully and consistently develop my guitar playing step by step - being aware of the limitations set by age, time and energy.

Hello guys! Hope you're all doing well 😀 I haven't formally introduced myself with this format, so here I go:

    • I'm from Anzoategui, Venezuela, which is located by the Caribbean Sea. And my favourite food definitely would be Empanadas with cazón (which is a baby shark) 😋.
    • I'm currently working on Invierno Porteño by Astor Piazzolla, really love the piece. Haven´t passed to the very challeging passages, but with hard work (and everything I'm learning from Tonebase 😀) I'll get it done.
    • I hope to learn a lot from the Tonebase professors, as well from the community members, keep on taking place in the challenges, and hopefully make some colleagues!

  • Hi All,

    I'm Andy

I'm from the UK. I live in North Hampshire, in the south of England. I'm about a 1-hour train ride from central London. My favourite foods are generally from all around the world. An English/UK food favourite would be Ham, Egg and Chips (with mushrooms and tomato too ;) )

I'm really only just starting out with Classical guitar. I have played the guitar for about 30 years, but have been mainly playing blues-based music.  I love classical and flamenco guitar and bought a new classical guitar about 2 years ago, while on holiday in Spain. So I am trying to go back to basics and to retrain basic technique right now, as my current 'learned' blues style is very un-classical.

I hope to be able to enjoy playing classical and flamenco music and for it to develop me as a guitarist. I also hope I can meet new people who share a common interest in guitar-based music.

    Hey guys!

I'm Ryan and i'm from Melbourne, Australia!

I've been playing guitar in bands for almost 20 years now. Ive been a firefighter for about 10 years but before that i played guitar in weddings and clubs. since being a firefighter i haven't had to play Jessies girl (not even once!) and i've been able to focus on playing in only original bands.

Once Covid hit, all the shows stopped so i decided to take up something i've always wanted to do which was play classical guitar. i found a great teacher and i've been playing non stop! ive been working through Brouwer pieces and attempting some of the Legnani caprices as well.

its hard to say what my favourite food is, but just thinking about a piece of raisin toast with a whole bunch of butter lathered on top of it starts to make my mouth water, so lets just go with that!

I'm hoping to join a community that not only loves the guitar but encourages the sharing of  knowledge and can help me discover new pieces and players.

  • Hi there! For anyone interested, I'm from Australia and have been playing all sorts of guitar since I was in high school. Classical was something I dabbled in as a curious learner, but my desire to be the next Slash quickly overcame that. I let it go for many years, until COVID last year I decided to regularly practice it again and I've discovered an all new love of the instrument. Anyway, that's my story. I'd have KILLED to have something like Tonebase when I was a kid.

Eric Phillips  Hi Phillips, I speak little English. Ufff Zaragoza is a beautiful city but, it is very far, I live in the Canary Islands. What is your favorite classical guitar composer?

    • josegm Mi compositor favorito?

  • Hello Everyone, Nipun here from India. I’m a Composer and I play the Piano and Classical Guitar.

My favourite food item is Bombay Duck (Bombil) & KinG Fish (Surmai) and Yes I also love Mutton.

I’m working on Adelita, Study in B minor Fernando Sor & have just started reading through Lobet Variations on a Theme by Sor maybe someday I will be able to achieve the entire piece, it has great insights for Guitar Composers.

I really want to master the art of Classical Guitar and become a better Composer/Performer so far I’m a self-taught Guitarist.

I’ve started growing nails and have said bye bye to the Piano for now .. Complete focus is on Classical Guitar.

Really excited for this new journey.

Thank you Tonebase for all that y’ll do for the Classical Guitar Community.

Here is a small composition of mine -

    Reminiscence - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgbThI3_V8A

    Hope y’ll like it.

    Much Love

    • Nipun Deshpande Hello, Nipun, and welcome! I would love to try those foods you mentioned. I live in the United States, and I go out for Indian food occasionally, but I'm sure it is not the same as the real thing. I once went to a Diwali celebration at our local India Community Center, and I had such a good time!

I listened to your composition and loved it! I especially liked when it went into the minor key - very dramatic.

I know that Tonebase has video lessons on all of those pieces you mentioned. Those are certainly standards of our repertoire, and for good reason. There are also many videos on composition that I think you would enjoy.

On Monday, August 16th, we are starting a community challenge on the great studies of Matteo Carcassi (Opus 60). It would be great if you could join in. You can read about it here on the community page. I have found the challenges to be very helpful and lots of fun.
