Welcome to tonebase!

Hey everyone - this is Igor from tonebase 🙂!

It's such a pleasure to welcome you as one of the founding members of the tonebase community. Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:

  • Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
  • What are you currently working on?
  • What are you hoping to get out of this community?

I'll go first:

  • While it's hard to pinpoint where exactly I'm from, lol, I just go with Bavaria Germany, and as favorite food, I'd choose Beer (surprise, surprise - closely followed by "Schweinshaxe" - Bavarian Pork-knuckle, which is quite delicious, but sooo heavy that it feels weird calling it favorite food)
  • Trying to keep my Aranjuez in the fingers, even though certainly don't have that much time to practice as during college days...
  • I hope we can facilitate authentic and interesting discussions around playing, learning, teaching, performing the guitar as well as all adjacent topics like concert prep, professional development, auditioning etc...

Now over to you (after some participation from our tonebase team members!)

Hello, everyone! My name is Corey. I live in Wisconsin, originally from Louisiana. My favorite Wisconsin food is probably cheese curds.

I studied classical guitar for a couple years back in college. Recently decided to pick it up again after nearly 20 years and I’m working on Lagrima by Tarrega and Etude op 60 no 3 by Carcassi to get back into the swing of things.

I’m looking forward to interesting discussions and to see what everyone is working on.

Hi guitar lovers, I'm Maarten from the Netherlands. I started playing the guitar at the age of 10, played for about 10 years and then had other priorities at that time of my life. Now, some 40 years later, it's time to return to this beautiful instrument.
Currently I'm working on Recuerdos de la Alhambra... My tremolo is still not back but I keep practising.

I hope to get lots of tips on technical stuff, musicality, beautiful pieces, scores and meanwhile grow as a player. And, have lots of fun!

I LOVE that little Giuliani etude--partly because to me it sounds so NOT like Giuliani.

Welcome to Tonebase. Great to see someone from Portugal join the club. FYI, I am on my way to Portugal and Spain in February for three months. Hope to catch some good guitar music when I am there. During my last visit in 2024, I caught a very nice candle light performance of a fine young classical guitarist in Lisboa.

    Hello

    I recently joined tonebase.
I live in Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side.

I am currently working on Tarrega Caprichio Arabe, and 2 Piazzolla pieces, Adios Nonino and Libertango

I’m looking forward to working on technique and musicality. I am enjoying tonebase and I’ve already attended 2 live sessions

    Jeff

Hi Jeffrey,  welcome to Tonebase. Love to see you working on a couple of Piazzolla's pieces. What arrangement of Adios Nonino? Agustin Carlevaro did an amazing arrangement of it IMO,  published by Guitar Solo in San Francisco.

I have Celil Refik Kaya 12 Tangos from Hal Leonard. I like it but it has both notation and tabs making the sheet music very long. It has a nice arrangement of Oblivion as well. I know the store Guitar Solo. I will have to look for that arrangement.

I do not know those arrangements. I play a few Piazzolla pieces but stick to Agustin Carlevaro's arrangements. He is the brother of Abel Carlevaro who was my teacher and a friend of Piazzolla.  In any case, if Adios Nonino is out of print at Guitar Solo, let me know and I can email you a copy.

thanks for the offer. I just ordered it from guitar solo. I needed some strings and a few other things as well. That’s a good story. I’m looking forward to comparing it to Celil’s Arrangement. I’m not sure I could Learn new fingerings.

Hello Everyone, I’m Chris. I hail from New Jersey, USA. A Favorite Jersey Food is difficult given our lovely diversity of selection. If I have to pick, it will almost always be a taco with Escabeche, Pulled Pork and Queso Fresco. And I love a good cocktail, A Bee’s Knees perhaps.

I took traditional guitar lessons (chords, rhythm, etc) 20 years ago but recently started playing classical guitar because it's more fun. I’ve been working through Brouwer’s Estodious Sencillos (thanks to my coach Arturo), Carpicho Arabe, and Satie’s Gnossienne No. 1.

I hope to work on my not-so-great technique at tonebase and find a group of people who I can learn from and enjoy the same music with.

Hello and welcome. The forums are normally a little slow until you see one of the month-long challenges or study groups start up. Things slowed up over the holidays, but I think they're due to start a new one in the next couple of weeks, and then it gets a lot more active. Feel free to join in. It's a pretty good group of people, and I always learn a lot.  Again, welcome.

Hi Everyone, my name is Glenn, and I am getting back into classical guitar. I earned a degree in guitar in 1988, but sadly put it on hold for years (though I did play some electric stuff over the years).

I am currently working on Adelita, Rosita by Tarrega, and Bolero by Julian Arcas. I have a little way to go on each, but I am getting there.

I am always looking for better practice routines, so if anyone would like to suggest ideas, please let me know.

I currently work on scales (I do a lot of sequences; I learned this from playing electric), and  Giuliani and Carulli arpeggios, but have just started working with Villa Lobos etude #1. In addition, I am playing Carcassi Op. 60 nos 1-3 and Sor Op. 31 nos 1-3

As I said, I am always looking for better ideas.

    Thanks

Welcome to Tonebase. As far as suggestions for a good practice regime, I am a big fan of Abel Carlevaro's Four Cuadernos which has some excellent exercises as well as his Microestudios.  If you want to learn more about Carlevaro's School of Guitar, check out the  Carlevaro Discussion Forum on Tonebase.
