Welcome to tonebase!

Hey everyone - this is Igor from tonebase 🙂!

It's such a pleasure to welcome you as one of the founding members of the tonebase community. Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:

  • Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
  • What are you currently working on?
  • What are you hoping to get out of this community?

I'll go first:

  • While it's hard to pinpoint where exactly I'm from, lol, I just go with Bavaria Germany, and as favorite food, I'd choose Beer (surprise, surprise - closely followed by "Schweinshaxe" - Bavarian Pork-knuckle, which is quite delicious, but sooo heavy that it feels weird calling it favorite food)
  • Trying to keep my Aranjuez in the fingers, even though certainly don't have that much time to practice as during college days...
  • I hope we can facilitate authentic and interesting discussions around playing, learning, teaching, performing the guitar as well as all adjacent topics like concert prep, professional development, auditioning etc...

Now over to you (after some participation from our tonebase team members!)

Hi everyone, I'm Amber from Australia. I'm 35 and have been learning classical guitar with a teacher for 8 years. I played cello, piano and acoustic (steel string) in high school, then played virtually no music for 10 years, then realised I really wanted to play the classical guitar. I absolutely love it. I've done my grade 8 exam a couple of years ago which I really enjoyed, and now I am preparing for a performance certificate recital here at the end of the year. For that, I am playing:

    - Bach cello suite 3 Sarabande and Bourees I and II

    - Villa Lobos Study no 1

    - Brower Fuga no 1

    - God of the Northern Forest by Phillip Houghton

    - Into the Dreaming by Sculthorpe

The last two are Australian and very modern. I think it's a good and varied program. I also had Dyens Tango En Skai on the go but I didn't think I'd be able to have it ready in time so dropped it.

My major issues I need help with are (I think):

    - performance anxiety

    - fluency when playing fast passages

    - tone

    - general tension in my body when I play

Excited to see what this platform has to offer :)

I put videos on instagram to attempt to get over my performance anxiety - https://www.instagram.com/the.part.time.bard/ - if anyone wants to comment, leave me feedback I'd really appreciate any insights.
