Increase Legato Playing in Both Hands in Two Weeks with TY!

Every instrument has its limitations and weaknesses. Playing legato is one of the hardest things to master on the guitar. Every note is so fragile: if your right hand accidentally touches the string or your left hand leaves the string in-between notes, the note will be stopped. Let’s explore and discuss the techniques and experiences on the details of how to maintain the notes with your left hand clean shifting, shifting motion, fingertip motion, exercises, and right hand training processes of free strokes for perfect legato playing.

  Right hand open strings: try to press down into the strings more, and longer, pressing into the strings for 1 or 2 seconds before playing the note, releasing the string.
  
  Spider: This is for sitting position, try to have a higher foot stool, so your left hand will feel better and easier!
  
  The shifting is very clean!

  E 1: Right hand wrist and hand needs to go more "on top of" the strings, right now seems could slide the forearm down more or to adjust the position. I will try to make a video to show you tomorrow~!
  
  E 2: the ring finger needs to stay longer before leaving its position in general! Try to connect the fingers on each string, no gaps at all. Very good!

TY Zhang For the etude, would it be another possibility to not play open strings at all so makes it easier to not over ring? Thanks!

  don Yes we can do that, but the best way is to learn how to work with open strings in terms of volume control, cleanness, and we will need them for shifting!

  TY Zhang Thanks TY! Got it, it is actually pretty hard at least for me, have to do it really slowly. I noticed I do sometimes mute higher strings etc instinctively but they are never consistent. To do it deliberately is really difficult.

  Right hand position could be improved a little more, wrist higher, hand over the strings, pressing in the strings deeper for a fuller sound.

  Try skip one string or skip two strings now!
  
  Shifting so clean, just mind the thumb, following the hand, always point around the middle finger.
