Week 3: Draft // Apr 5th
Welcome to Week 3! This week we focused on form, setting parameters, and drafting in aims of completing more short pieces.
The assignment for this week is to blueprint (plan) our ideas into whole pieces (arch map, graphic drawing, text) and complete at least 1 rough draft.

Had a strange week with other events taking up too much time so not been able to fully explore this topic. Most of myattempts at composition are trying to find a decent melody but I've now decided on a plan which I will hopefully go with. The plan is to write an arpeggio study using right hand patterns from Mircea's right hand technique exercises. The chord sequence is loosely based on the circle of fifths and will be a sequence of minor chord moving to the major chord on the same root and then to the relative minor (e.g. c minor, c major, a minor, a major, f# minor etc). Next challenge is to turn that into a decent bass line and top part.

Hey everyone,
I have been really bogged down with trying to get my Etude playable. I have the outer sections under control but the middle section is still being problematic. I think I am close, though. I had decided to compose not using the guitar to avoid resorting to purely guitaristic patterns. To that extent I have succeeded admirably :)
I am now trying to do a Theme and Variations under the influence of Bartok. I plan on using an American folk tune (TBD) or compose something myself. I have ideas on how the texture of each variation will proceed. I did a sample idea based on Brahms' Lullaby (that will NOT be the basis for my T&V).

Right. I've done a very rough recording of the piece so you can get an idea of what it's supposed to sound like. Mistakes left, right and centre, but enough for now.
I made some changes to the score too, so here's it is as well.
Ooh, I forgot to say what was easy and difficult:
Easy: having fun with it
, coming up with as ridiculous an idea as possible within the parameters suggested by Ashley (Ash) Lucero, working from the plan went a lot more smoothly than I expected. Difficult: General composition difficulties, conducting the details of the musical ideas clearly over the general structure, but the plan I made came out really clearly; playing it...
