Tone Production: What Influences your Sound?
Howdy, all you guitar-slingers and string-scoundrels Excited to talk with you about some fundamental principles of tone production and do some analysis on pre-existing productions and record our very own examples that we will send through various analyzing tools!
- What's the difference of good and bad apoyando?
- What role does the angle of the nail play?
- String movement relative to the top?
- And much more, depending on your questions!
We are going to be using this thread to gather suggestions and questions!
- What questions do you have on this topic?
- Any particular area you would like me to focus on?
Forum questions will be answered first!
Today, we are talking about tone quality! What makes a good apoyando sound, when do your free strokes get thin and why does the guitar have a sound hole? We will do a deep dive into the physics of tone production and apply some analysis tools to get to the bottom of the good, the bad and the ugly sounds!

I won’t be able to attend live, but I will watch it later. One question I have: Is there a notable difference between what we hear when we are playing and what an audience hears? In other words, does our physical position relative to the guitar affect how that guitar sounds (and if so, do we need to be aware of this)?
