WEEK TWO Updates: Main Thread - Where the magic continues!

Alright, welcome to WEEK TWO of the Main Thread for this challenge! 💪

Why is this thread necessary?

Well, with the initial main thread turning into a 500-post behemoth (😵), it became hard to navigate.

This comes at the very end of Week 2. Therefore, very soon, I'll be making a different thread for Week 3! We're almost there, folks, just two more days to go until Week 3! 😎

But Mircea - I hear you say - can we still post in the old thread?

Yes, of course! Feel free to reply to others in the old thread to your heart's content. Just make sure you post any new updates (whether text or video) in this thread instead.

"Oh no, I didn't see this thread, so I posted a new update in the old thread!"

No problem at all! Just tag me (@Mircea) and I'll move your post 😎 These admin powers I got here are actually pretty cool! It turns out I can move individual replies between threads.

Where is the Week 1 thread?

Please use the following format when commenting (feel free to copy & paste!):

  • Etude you worked on:
  • One thing you found easy:
  • One thing you found difficult:
  • (Optional): a video of you performing it!

Sample daily update:

  • Etude you worked on: No. 1
  • One thing you found easy: The polyphony between bass and treble flowed very naturally, I had an easy time playing each line like it belonged to its own voice.
  • One thing you found difficult: I had a hard time creating enough variety throughout the repeated measures.

Feel free to make these updates as short or long as you wish!

Giuseppe Gasparini Well done, Giuseppe. I like that piece so much, so I will strive for recording a nice version during this challenge, too.

    • Etude I worked on: No. 9
A very attractive and lovely piece with nice melody and accompaniment, starting, e.g., with a descending A major scale in the bass.
I took it also as an exercise in sightreading and looking ahead in order to have fingerings working over longer phrases without getting into too much trouble... Now, knowing the piece better, I would try to record an improved version later.
    • One thing I found easy: RH
    • One thing I found difficult: Reading the score from the provided pdf (looks a bit old fashioned in style and sometimes a bit blurred) is not always easy for me. Maybe a more "modern" print would be helpful (for me)... 😉
Music: Having sustaining bass notes and legato is sometimes difficult, and also good balancing and controlling the three voices.

  • wow, such a great initiative.   So sorry I missed it, missed the first week, (too involved with the recording course and practicing my new piece). But, not a day without Sor (or Bach ftm). I really loved to hear all your recordings. youre doing a great job.

Here is my first recording:  quality not so great, first take after the first practice day,  no editing. I hope to keep up from now, and post every third day.

    • Etude you worked on: op.35, nr 4
    • One thing you found easy: ryhtm and arpeggio form are pretty straightforward. the structure as well: A (G major), B (E minor), A with nice coda
    • One thing you found difficult: bring enough variation, without braking the nice flow of the arpeggios. take enough time to mark the tensions, without loosing the overall tempo.
    • joosje sorry I doubled the file
