    HVL - Choros No 1, Section A.

I know this piece is probably a bit cliché, but I've been wanting to learn it for a long time, and this seems as good a time as any. 😉

I just started taking a look at this first part this morning, so I am just muddling my way through it.

Making smooth chord changes is probably my first task, which would involve making sure I have the best fingering. After multiple run-throughs this morning my left wrist was starting to get a little sore/fatigued, so I'll have to be careful not to over-do it with this one.

The noise in the background is not eggs frying, but cars driving in the rain outside my open windows.

This piece reminds me a bit in some ways of Sons de Carrilhõe by João Pernambuco.

    • Steve Pederson Very nice piece Steve. You already have good control and making your own faces like Bream 😂 Thanks for sharing your progress

Steve Pederson What with those cigars and fancy suits, he definitely has that 'roaring twenties' gangster vibe going on!

Steve Pederson Great start, Steve. I imagine this piece would be a lot of fun to play, and by the sound of it you are well on your way after such a short time.

I don't think you fully understand what 'muddling thru' means. If you heard me trying to work up something for this challenge you would have a much better grasp of the phrase.🙂

    • Steve Pederson great start for this beautiful Choro Steve! I personally don't consider it «cliché» and probably one of the most beautiful Choro that exists (my preferred one being Barrios's Choro da Saudade)! This piece has a lot to offer and is enough challenging, what I find sad is that a lot of guitarists play it more in a Spanish style instead of making us dance to these Brazilian rhythms. My favorite version is without a doubt that one by master Pierri...

    • Steve Pederson great start, Steve.  Looking forward to see and hear you work on the piece. Btw It’s not a cliche, it’s an evergreen, always sounding new (so familiar but new) when someone is playing it the way he or she feels all those rubatos and syncopes.

Steve Pederson Really great start Steve! This piece is one of my  all time favourites. It was hearing a recording of Bream playing it that intorduced me to the classical guitar!

Blaise Laflamme Thanks for sharing this, Blaise. Definitely a 'cool' performance that has a unique 'vibe' - quite different from Bream's, for sure! (And what a 'smooth' relaxed technique he has too - one could think this is the easiest repertoire in the world!) He takes some very interesting liberties with the score. I guess when you're that good, you get away with it!

    • David Krupka you're right, listening and watching him looks like that's easy stuff! 😂For sure he likes to enhance repeated part and in this case he also takes a few liberties by introducing some chromatisme and rhythms, but in the end he renders well the light and dancing side. You can watch the whole concert, I just pinned the Choro, the Torroba Sonatine is just enlightening!

    Valseana

This is a piece that I really love and I've spent a lot of time on this piece before.  I've forgotten most of it and while I had to read the music to play it, I was surprised how my fingers still remember some parts of it.
