Judicael Perroy Live Stream (Nov 12) Suggestions / Questions

Ladies and gentlemen, I have the pleasure to announce:

Judicael Perroy will be our guest for a live stream this Thursday, Nov 12th!

(You might have received an email notification about his workshop two weeks ago. This was a mistake - the workshop has been rescheduled for this week. Sorry about that! The time in this thread is correct. Hope to see many of you there!)

Find the start time in your time zone by clicking the photo or following this event link:

We are going to be using this thread to gather suggestions about things he might want to touch on, and offer you a chance to ask him your own questions!

  • What questions do you have for Judicael?
  • Anything particular area of performance, technique, musicianship, pedagogy or transcription that you would like him to focus on?

"Following his tonebase lesson on Manuel Maria Ponce's Sonata III, Judicael Perroy will be back on tonebase for this exclusive live workshop! One of the most in-demand professors, solo and chamber artists of the classical guitar world, Judicael is renowned for pushing the limits of his instrument through his unmistakable performances, recordings, and by training one of the world's most successful cohort of new-generation players."

I would like to ask a question related to fingernails but that is not really about fingernails themselves.  Many people have observed that Judicael has very long i,m,a fingernails compared to other guitarists. I would like to hear his response about specifically how long vs short fingernails changes (or doesn't change) the mechanics of plucking.  For example: It seems to me that players with really long nails have to extend the big knuckle more to clear the string.

Dean this is a great idea! We should definitely ask him about his nails, unique right-hand technique, and whether they go hand-in-hand.

Mircea Yes, thanks, I'll tune in.  I've also heard that guitars that have a fast attack like a Smallman also affect right hand technique. I've heard people on other forums say the technique on these lattice and double top guitars is different than a traditional Spanish design, so I'd be curious about that as well since he plays a Smallman.

Thanks to everybody who watched our live stream with Judicael! I found it incredibly insightful and enjoyed every second of hosting it!

I hope, I implemented Dean 's question to his fulfillment, Judicael took particular interest into how the character of a guitar changes your right hand technique!

martin Yes, thank you for asking my question.  I've only had the chance to play one Smallman and for only a short time. I've heard people on other forums suggest that the technique to play these guitars is different than the Spanish designed guitars. I found his answer interesting and I suspected the same. The quick and easy attack allows the right hand to produce a loud sound in the lower dynamic ranges with less effort. I can see where this would be helpful with certain repertoire.

Dean most certainly, yes! And thank you for asking that question, I found it very interesting and loved Judicael's opinion about it. I also played a Smallman guitar only one or two times in the past, they certainly have their unique qualities that a player can use for their benefit (like with all great instruments).
