Week 2: Change of Colors🍂

As the air gets crisper and the days grow shorter, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the beauty and transition that autumn brings. We're excited to introduce our newest community challenge: "Music of the Fall"! This is your chance to explore pieces that capture the essence of this season – whether they evoke the feeling of change, a fresh beginning, or the quiet nostalgia of falling leaves.

🎯 What’s the Challenge?

Select a guitar piece that you personally associate with the change of seasons or the idea of starting anew. This could be a work that resonates with autumnal moods, melodies that conjure up images of falling leaves, or pieces that mark a new chapter in your musical journey.

🔖 Suggested Themes:

  • Transition: Pieces that reflect change or transformation.
  • New Beginnings: Works that symbolize starting something new, like a new season in life or music.
  • Autumnal Mood: Music that captures the essence of fall – perhaps something contemplative, warm, or even bittersweet.

⏰ Timeline:

  • Start: October 1st
  • End: October 30th

  • I didn't want to miss the challenge this month, so I started with Martin's suggestion of «Autumn Streets» by Andrew York, a cute work I didn't know. Thank you for listening!

    • Blaise Laflamme So beautiful, Blaise! When I close my eyes and listen, it really does take me to a very introspective, and autumn-like place.

Such a beautiful performance, Blaise! (I've listened to it half a dozen times already.) Your tone, your phrasing - everything, really, seems just perfect. And I agree with Eric, the reflective quality of the music somehow captures the character of the fall season: a sort of wistfulness I suppose, a longing for the days of summer now gone.

Blaise Laflamme beautiful playing as usual.  What a piece, as Eric said, I can almost smell Autumm listening to it.

Blaise Laflamme Beautiful performance Blaise. Excellent choice - for me it really evokes a picture of an avenue with the leaves on the trees starting to turn golden and gently fall!

Blaise Laflamme This is a really beautiful piece. Such a lovely melody and I love his harmonies that make it sound so compelling. Expertly played, Blaise. I love your video editing work, btw. Well done! I just have one static camera. Having more than one really makes a video look more professional.

    • Debbie Thank you Debbie, my skills at video editing slowly improve as I'm doing more. Surprisingly this is a part I'm enjoying, listening to the music while looking at the video angles and select what frames and movement flows better. For sure multiple cameras enhance the possibilities, I'll try adding a 3rd one eventually! 😅

Blaise Laflamme Do you make the video as you're recording or do you record separately and then do a video playback? I mostly do at the same time but sometimes I feel so distracted when both are happening at the same time that I find I don't play as well. I'd like to experiment more with playback but then I wonder if it's more work in the long run because what if I phrase something slightly differently. I guess that's where multiple camera angles could help to switch the camera if the sync is slightly off. But I'd love to hear your approach.

  • Another piece I was reading through that reflects the melancholy of the Fall season, by Marianne Vedral, a composer that I really like. Thank you for listening!

Blaise Laflamme I really like this piece a lot but it feels like it diving straight into the heart of winter than Autumm. A heart wrencher.

Blaise Laflamme Another beautiful performance, Blaise, and as always, beautifully produced too! (I love your attention to detail - even the stylized lettering of your logo is tastefully rendered.) Well, we've heard 'Autumn Streets' and 'Autumn Melancholy' -  throw in that old warhorse 'Autumn Leaves' and it's a hat trick!
