OK DebbieMarek Tabisz and Blaise Laflamme , you twisted my arm.

Here's a recording of the piece. Er, you didn't ask for a good performance, so... you get what you wish for ☺️. I did my best with the time I had. Thanks for your encouragement!

There is an added cat this time to make up for it though.😺

I gave it a title - "Arisings and Passings"

Oh, and I forgot to say what was easy and difficult:

Easy - the task of just doing the diminution, transposition etc. and exploring the musicality of the material

Hard - I had ideas for how I wanted to relate all the materials, but often the natural development of a single phrase would go in a slightly different direction to the one I was planning, e.g. I was planning to direct the melody to a specific note at the end so that it would resolve to where I wanted later, but that melody ended up progressing to far, or it needed too many repetitions to get to the point I wanted and became too repetitive. I also found that the melodic transformations I was doing here prodded me towards a more Bach-type texture, which is OK, but I found a little tricky to maintain a style I like and use more interesting sonorities on the guitar. Also, just deciding clearly on the harmony - I knew the types of chords I wanted, and I didn't want to do anything particularly classical, but as soon as you attempt to do things untraditionally, you deprive yourself of all the technical resources the traditional systems have.

I also made some minimal changes to the score too, so here it is again:

  • I used Tremolo, found using MuseScore easier but still trying to make it sing.

    • Vilio Celli

Thanks for sharing, Vilio Celli . It's easy to make it sing. Just use the export option to generate the mp3. Also, you can download soundFonts for it here

      https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/soundfonts-and-sfz-files#list

and use the View/Synthetizer and View/Mixer to load the SoundFonts and choose the desired instrument

      Kind regards

At the last minute, I did a re-harmonization of the child's melody. Unfortunately, I can't record anything and I only have a computer-generated mockup

    • Marek Tabisz That sounds great! What are the words to the song?

Eric thank you! - the words od song are (in free translation):

"the kitten has climbed onto the fence and blinks
it's a pretty song, but not a long one
not long, not short, but just right
      sing kitty please again"

  • Hi Everybody,

Thankyou Ashley for last weeks inspiring livestream and waw and congratulations to everyone composing efforts!! so interesting to hear how unique everyone is.

I have been experimenting with some of these 'development' ideas/ techniques. I especially resonated with ways to use repetition. My brain works quite well with visual shapes so writing on manuscript and using these repeating shapes has been a breakthrough . I invested in the Schoenberg book and this is helping me.

I have found writing melodys quite easy and super fulfilling and fun.

I found siblious tricky getting the multiple voices and sustain right. I have decided to spend more time studying Sibelius and hopefully be able to work quicker and more creatively .

I have posted a score of my lost study with a 2nd guitar part (melody) ontop. I would like to record it so you can all hear it from real guitars I hope ill be able to do this through the week.

    One Love

    • Jaime Zaldua

    • Jaime Zaldua so sorry I am just getting to this! Really great work here, I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying this exercise. very carcassi!
