TY Zhang: Stages of Learning Music - from Technique to Practice to Performance (Jan 16) | Questions / Suggestions
Alright guys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, I have great news!
My awesome colleague and good friend, international concert artist and GFA winner TY Zhang is going to join us for a livestream right from tonebase HQ in Hollywood, California!
Following your suggestions right here on the forums, including valuable comments by Varun and Roni Glaser , we are bringing you a livestream offering an overview of all stages of learning music:
From technical exercises derived from fragments of a new piece, to fingerings, slow practice, comparing recordings, and all the way until the moment of concert performance
We will be using Jean-Philippe Rameau's work Les Sauvages as an example.

We are going to be using this thread to gather suggestions and questions!
- What questions do you have on this topic?
- Any particular area you would like us to focus on?
In this livestream, international concert artist and GFA winner TY Zhang will be taking us on a journey through all stages of learning a piece, from the beginning all the way up until concert performance. We will start by looking at technical exercises, isolating fragments of the music to work on, comparing recordings, finding fingerings, slow practice, followed by rehearsal, memory work and finally getting into the concert mindset.

I keep looking at the video of TY playing this and it's actually difficult to work out exactly what he's doing. I know this wasn't supposed to be a 'tutorial' on how to play the piece but it would be helpful to have TY's actual LH and RH fingering to see how he is playing those trills.

There's also a missing natural sign on the b in m8 and m40. It probably makes sense to look at other arrangements and/or a keyboard score and make your own arrangement. If anyone knows of a good arrangement that's error free, let me know, I don't mind paying for one. Here's another free guitar arrangement I found online. It looks to be free of errors at first glance, but I've just started learning the b section so I'm not 100% certain of that.
