Hey guys, since we always talk about preparing and planting your right hand, we'd like to cover this topic in depth with easy study repertoire by Carcassi, Carulli and Giuliani (and maybe some more!). We try to tailor this workshop both for beginners and for instructors who like to introduce this topic to their students! 🧙‍♂️

Forum questions will be answered first!

"Today we will dive into one of the pillars of modern era guitar technique: Planting and preparing your right hand fingerings for increased stability. Why do we plant our right hand on the strings? When do we plant how many fingers? With beginner friendly examples of Carulli, Carcassi and Giuliani, tonebase host Martin will guide you through this technique-changing topic with easy-to-follow instructions."

  • Hello Tonebase operator,

Just to let you know that I have problem watching online events of Martin Zimny.

I've tried all kind of steps: refreshing the browser, changing to different browser and even resetting the computer.

    Any idea?

    Nahum from Israel

nahum. nehemia Hi Nahum! We have been working hard with Vimeo Support (our livestream engine provider) to fix this issue, and we hope to have a solution for you very soon - hopefully even for Martin's livestream tomorrow. If you continue to get this issue going forward, feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]. The error doesn't seem to be on our end, but we are working hard to get it sorted out. Thanks for your patience and sorry about this!

    • Mircea Hi Mircea,

Since I saw few members reporting this issue, and the basic steps I've done didn't fix the problem, I assume this is some mismatch between video formats (maybe resolution) that causes it. Again, the problem doesn't appear when the live events are carried by you (and I enjoy them very much!).

      Thanks for your response.

      Regards,

      Nahum

nahum. nehemia Hi Nahum! It's a little more complex than that. But yes, we are aware of the fact that this happens when Martin goes live and we're working with Vimeo support to get it fixed as soon as possible! I'm so sorry it has been happening for you.

  • I enjoyed your instruction and I am trying to incorporate your planting and relaxation techniques. However, I find that planting the a-finger interferes with relaxing when using the m- and i- fingers.  Any suggestions?

Takato Umeda I would advise you to plant all three fingers ami and then try to pluck the string with each finger. Never force the movement, let the sound be as soft as it needs to be in order to move your finger relaxed. Do this with each finger individually. You will find that in the beginning you might be only able to move a couple of centimetres, but with continued practicing you will be able to a full, relaxed movement!

If this works, try an alternating movement of m and i while a is planted, again as soft as it needs to be! The key is really not to push your hand as these are very fine and complex movements for the hand!
