  • Hi, this is my first take of the A section of Capricho Arabe.  The techniques I've learn over the past few weeks are beginning to help as this was my first take video.  I decided to keep all the mistakes and hesitations in so I can see this as a reference - it will be interesting to see my progress in another two weeks.  Kind Regards Dennis

Dennis Greensmith Great!!! After my concert tonight (yay, live concert!) I'll dig into some Capricho myself!

I really enjoyed the contrasts you already implemented in the chords right before the main theme!

    • Martin Thank you Martin - the main thing is I am really enjoying my new practise regime with all the help and tips from Tonebase. I'm even enjoying using the metronome again!. I set my self very small goals with no expectations in terms of performance - just trying to solve my problems and this works much better for me and my enjoyment.

      Kind Regards Dennis

Dennis Greensmith Great! I am thinking of a livestream about a mindful use of the metronome within your practice session, would that be something interests some of you?

    • Dennis Greensmith you created a lovely atmosphere in that intro section. I’m looking forward to hear the next part in the major key. 👏

    Dear all,

thanks a lot for your videos, which are hugely inspirational for me. I kept on working on Lagrima, and started working on the second part. Thanks to your encouragements and advice, the first part started to be a bit more fluid. The shift movement is still too much from the hand and not enough from the elbow... (but I’ll work on that Martin!)

one easy thing: tuning the guitar before I practice. With a tuner app of course. 🤔

one thing I found difficult: well the second part is much more dynamic and complex than the first, so I am still trying to not stop for several seconds in the middle, looking for the next position....

    take care,

    didier

Didier So cool, thank you for keeping us updated with your progress!!!

Talking about tuning: I'll do a live stream on Roland Dyens Vingt Lettres on FridayThose pieces are composed so that incorporates three main aspects than Roland felt have been neglected in previous etude cycles: reduction of squeaks, efficient damping aaaand .... drum roll .... tuning!

I decided to record Recuerdos de La Alhambra.  It's one of my all time favourite pieces.  I started studying it in 2020 but I have discovered that it is quite challenging to play convincingly.  Sorry it's quite long because I played all the repeats.  I recorded this one on my flamenco guitar and classical guitar but felt that the flamenco guitar sounded slightly better somehow so that's the one I attached here.

    • One thing you found easy:  Nothing about it is easy! Well I suppose the chords aren't really that difficult if it weren't for all the tremolo...hahahaha
    • One thing you found difficult:  The slurs are quite difficult to pull off even after I have practiced them quite a bit.  I need to do a bit more targetted work there! I find I sometimes don't properly finish the tremolo before shifting.  It's challenging to keep a consistent tremolo througout and to get a nice warm tone.  I found the recordings difficult to listen to because the sound of the tremolo sounds quite harsh so not sure if the microphone is too close or it's just my playing!
