  • Ok so here's another version of the Sanz's Pavana where I refined a bit the playing and the video to make it public on my channel.

    • Lars Kjøller-Hansen thank you Lars, it's very kind of you! 🙏As a side note, a year ago I didn't know how to record myself or produce a video and I had never shared any music publicly. Tonebase and this community opened my mind and gave me tools on those topics.

Blaise Laflamme It sounds very good with the capo, that's for sure! And it occurs to me that an argument can be made in favour of its use: the baroque guitar, although tuned in E like the modern instrument, lacked a real 'bass end' - not only was there no sixth course, re-entrant tuning meant that the lowest pitch was (usually) the bourdon of the fourth course, a D. (I seem to remember reading somewhere that Sanz may have used a double re-entrant tuning, meaning that the lowest note was the open third course!) So raising the pitch of the modern guitar may bring it a little closer to the sound-world of its baroque era cousin.

    • David Krupka you're right, that makes it sound kind of baroque-like. Very interesting the information you provided.

    • Eric Phillips David Krupka thank you guys for your support! 🙏 I'm slowly filling my channel with works I like to play while rebuilding myself as a musician after too many years far from music.

    Capricho Árabe / Francisco Tárrega ( Take 31 🙄 - no editing at all 😋... )

Dear Community - this is my first recording for this Challenge. This time, my goal was to practice on only a few pieces for a longer period of time and thankfully, the challenge will have another 4th week. I am really running out of time and not all pieces are already ready for recording...

    • Things you found easy:

           - Remembering the Piece and bringing it back to memorisation within three weeks

    • Things you found difficult:

            - Keeping the pulse while involving Rubatos,

            - playing in a good tempo while not losing musicality

            - Second Part (Bar 23): Holding F-Major-Chord while playing the Melodie with slurs,

            - Not to run out of Memory at all 😂

    • Olli that was great Olli! I like the tempo with moderate rubato 👍... BTW I always want to eat pizza after watching your videos 😂

    • Olli Really great, Olli. That's another one I've always been wanting to play, but never got around to it. The section is F major does seem quite challenging. Not a guitar-friendly key, for sure.

    • Olli Excellent.  Loved your musicality and tone.  Not an easy piece and you make it look rather easy.  Congrats!

Olli Wonderfully played Ollie. That is a challenging piece and you really performed it well. It's a piece I had worked on a bit years ago but never had it at an acceptable level. Great job.

Olli Very nice, Olli. You really capture the ‘capricious’ character of the piece. (I used to play it so slowly that it sounded more like a dirge than a Capricho!) Btw, is that your hamster’s guitar in the background? 😄

Olli Wow, this was insane! Performing this difficult piece with such perfection. It is another impossible piece for me, give me 10 more years, I think I can handle the first few bars 😂. One more curious question except for the hamster guitar, may I ask what the thing placed in front of you was? 😅

Wai Dear Wai, after taking part in Martin Martins great recording workshop, I ordered a pair of ribbon-Microphones (active-Ribbons) and placed them in the so called "Blumlein-Setup". I like the sound very much and, as you hear on the recording, nothing is manipulated on the sound ...NOTHING ! And no reverb etc. is added....this is really just the guitar direct to Microphone, direct to Youtube.

For my personal preferences the best choice to keep it simple and good sounding...🥰
