  • Sor – Mouvement de priere religieuse Op 31 No 23

I’ll make today my last submission by Sor, so I have chosen one of my favorites. I really think his skill as a composer comes out on this one. I find this piece much more difficult to play than it seems. It’s tricky to make everything smooth and legato. The slow tempo and sparse texture make it so any note or chord hit less than perfectly sticks out like a sore (Sor 🙂) thumb. And trust me, there are plenty such sore thumbs in my video.

Tomorrow, I will move on to the Romantic period (Jack’s favorite!!).

Eric Phillips Well I, for one, loved it! This "religious prayer movement" as it is evidently translated, was executed quite "saintly" 😇! A nice finish to the Sor repertoire.

Eric Phillips This is wonderful. I really like this piece also. I agree that it is quite difficult because there is no where to 'hide'. Beautiful playing.

Eric Phillips Wait a minute, did you say "the Romantic period"? 😳

    • Jack Stewart I did indeed! Spanish Romantic music to be precise!

    • Steve Pederson Thanks, Steve. I'm more of a Steelers fan than a Saints fan, though. 🙂

    • Eric Phillips that was great Eric, what a nice piece to conclude your Sor «calling» and not be Sor-ry 👍

Eric Phillips Really well played, Eric. One of my favourites as well. As you say, much harder than it appears - as is often the case with Sor, I find. But you seem to manage the various technical challenges with  little difficulty at all - not many 'Sor' thumbs sticking out that I could see!

  • My journey progresses well. Third version of Evocacion, big difference vs first one i did 2 weeks ago! This time I played fully.

I will keep practicing and see whether i can improve further. It looks like I am kind of plateauing despite efforts… playing the tough part slowly thousands of times…
