Jose Vinas - Andante Sentimental Op 40

From what I can tell, Jose Vinas (1823-1888; there should be a tilde over the n) was not only a guitarist, but also a pianist, violinist, and conductor. The name of this piece definitely describes its character.

  Eric Phillips You're lucky! I'd love to have seen him. My parents had a couple of his recordings in their LP collection. Listening to him really cultivated my love of the guitar.

  David Krupka It was very special night for me. It was some time in the late 80s when I saw him play Aranjuez with the Rochester Philharmonic. I then bought a bunch of his recordings that are so great and I listened to them over and over again, alternating with Bream. Who would have thought then that he would retire so early from performing and recording?

  Eric Phillips His early retirement from the stage (and studio) was certainly a surprise. Maybe an injury explains it? Or maybe he just didn't enjoy it. The life of an itinerant virtuoso probably isn't for everyone ... A pity for the guitar world, though. I understand Segovia regarded him as his true musical 'successor'.

  David Krupka Thanks David. In fact I was playing this piece to test out the sound and video for another piece I use a capo for, and I really enjoyed the feeling of playing it that way, nothing more. You're right, there's no need to use a capo for this piece.

  Blaise Laflamme Well, I loved your first recording of this, but this one is even better. You really lay out for us the beauty of the composition in your phrasing and dynamics. I particularly love the section from about 1:30 - 2:00. So beautiful! I also like your choice of repeating the opening phrase at the end.
  
  I know what you mean about the capo. Sometimes putting it on can give the music an entirely differently feel in the hands, and I enjoy that.

  Olli Thank you Olli. In this video I'm using 2 cameras, the main POV is a Canon EOS M50 and the side POV is a Canon EOS SL3. Those are quite affordable and give you great results for the bucks, and they can do 4K but I still do HD for space and speed.

  Blaise Laflamme I only have to hear a bar or two of a recording to determine that it is an amateur doing his best, regrettably often myself, or a professional recording. This one belongs to the latter. High-end recording sound, video, musicality, technique and confidence.👍🏻
