    Capricho Árabe / Francisco Tárrega ( Take 31 🙄 - no editing at all 😋... )

Dear Community - this is my first recording for this Challenge. This time, my goal was to practice on only a few pieces for a longer period of time and thankfully, the challenge will have another 4th week. I am really running out of time and not all pieces are already ready for recording...

    • Things you found easy:

           - Remembering the Piece and bringing it back to memorisation within three weeks

    • Things you found difficult:

            - Keeping the pulse while involving Rubatos,

            - playing in a good tempo while not losing musicality

            - Second Part (Bar 23): Holding F-Major-Chord while playing the Melodie with slurs,

            - Not to run out of Memory at all 😂

    • Olli I liked the video already, but did  not have time to reply. So,: Very well done. One of the top pieces of our repertoire. You have great control and play it beautifully! Gratuliere!

Olli This was totally worth the wait! Gorgeous tone and excellently performed. I'm curious about your guitar. The headstock looks like it's a Hauser model, but with a cedar top. Cool funky background as well! 😎

Steve Pederson you are right - Hermann Hauser 1947. This Replica was build for me in 2019 by Carl-Hermann-Schäfer (Nicolaus Wollf). It has original Landstorfer Machine Heads from that time which the luthier still had in his drawer - so they are yellowed over the years. The guitar has been varnished to darken it and look like a spruce top that is at least 100 years old. So it 99% looks and sounds like the original from 1947 🥰

Now I only have to learn how to play the guitar in a correct way... 😂

Olli that's so cool! I ordered a Herman Hauser model from Cordoba guitar company. They are currently working on building it. Last time I heard I should be expecting it around June of this year, but they keep pushing back the date for some reason, so who knows when I'll get it!

  • José Viñas - Capullos de Abril Op 40 No 2

Here's another piece by Viñas. The title translates as April Buds. Right now, I would love for Spring to be here. We had a pretty bad ice and snow storm last night. It took me about twice as long to drive to work.

Eric Phillips Nicely done Eric. It's nice to hear less well known works - it helps to fill out the range of music for each period
      (yes, even the romantic period).

    • Eric Phillips nice Eric. It’s some film music it seems. So great how you build up the expectation from the Gmajor section back to the E minor, and then: this surprise major coda at the end……

  • José Ferrer – Minuet Op 12 No 8

On to another great José of the Romantic era in Spain. José Ferrer (1835-1916) was a student of José Brocá. He taught in Paris for sixteen years, but later returned to his homeland, where he died.

This piece is from a group of twelve minuets dedicated to Francisco Tárrega, Ferrer’s “esteemed friend”. The two halves of the piece starkly contrast with one another in character.

Eric Phillips This is a nice one Eric. Well played and the sound is really good. I've played a few Ferrer pieces in the past. I've been thinking of digging out for this challenge

Eric Phillips wow - as alway, you played very good and your guitar is weeping sweet !

How many recordings have you made for this challenge ? At least on per day ? This is so great and unbelievable. You told, you needed double time to arrive at school ? And nevertheless you did another great recording there 😉⏳

    • Eric Phillips so beautiful , Eric. What a lovely piece. Nice and dramatic. Your legatos  in thirds and sixths in the B part are superb! And your tone is so all over consistent. Great playing.

    • Olli Thanks, Olli. My goal has been one piece per day. That’s why they’ve all been simpler pieces.
