Martin Hello Martin, will there also be a week four in this challenge ? (21-27.02.) What is the deadline for uploading a recording - I am hardly working on pieces and the time is running away. I am also eagerly awaiting the delivery of my blue LED backlight for future recordings
The watch Party is on o4th March.... that's another half week from 28.02 till 03.03... Best Regards

Olli Oh wait, of course there will be a fourth week! I'm sorry, this challenge is running the whole month, forgot that for a second because there are soooo much great submissions already!
So I will open week for next Monday on March 21st, the cut-off date for the Watch Party will be March 28th, that's when I am preparing one Powerpoint Presentation to rule them all!

Jose Broca - Un Adios Op 4
Today, I will break into the very large world of Spanish Romantic (era) music. As I fish around for pieces to play, there is such a vast ocean to choose from. The big name is Tarrega, of course, but there is so much more. For the next several days, I will be playing pieces all written by men named Jose.
Jose Broca (1805-1882) was a student of Dionisio Aguado, so he is a good bridge to the previous era. This piece is simple, but charming, and very satisfying to play.
Here's a joke that perhaps only people from the U.S. will understand. What question do you ask Jose before a baseball game? Jose, can you see? (If you don't get it, here's a hint: it's a musical joke, and the KEY is very important.)

Jack Stewart Hah! As a high school teacher, I get a lot of eye rolling at my plentiful jokes. But when alums come back to visit, they always tell me that they LOVED my jokes! It's strange how time changes our perception of everything.

Jack Stewart That is correct! I'm starting to get students whose parents I taught. It makes me feel old (and, of course, to my students I am old, like very old).

I did not know this composer! It's great to get to know more Spanish pieces.
I always played guitar, but never took the time to learn much about composers and expand my knowledge of the repertoire. -

joosje Thanks Joosje! It’s actually from the US national anthem (written by Francis Scott KEY). It is always sung at the beginning of baseball games. The first words are, “Oh say, can you see…” which sounds like, “Jose, can you see?” It’s a really dumb joke, which is the only kind I know.

Eric Phillips This is a very interesting piece, Eric. It sounded a bit classical at the beginning, but then at the 2 minute point it sounded like it went into a completely different song and a different time period, which I'm assuming was just a B section. I can see what you mean by him bridging the gap. Very nice piece.
