Irina Kulikova Live Stream (Nov 8th): Suggestions / Questions!

Alright everyone, I have the wonderful pleasure to announce:

Irina Kulikova will be our guest for a LIVE workshop this Sunday!

Find the start time in your time zone by clicking the photo or following this event link:

https://app.tonebase.co/guitar/live/player/irina-kulikova-workshop

We are going to be using this thread to gather more suggestions things she will touch on, and offer you a chance to ask her your own questions!

  • What questions do you have for Irina?
  • Any topic you would particularly like her to comment on?

Among the topics we are already planning to cover are:

  • her wonderful, warm and smooth sound
  • left hand technique, including sustained 4th finger contact with fingerboard
  • elbow position and other rarely mentioned aspects of posture
  • learning a lot of repertoire very fast

I'd be interested in hearing lots about the fourth point, as well as maintaining repertoire.

The rest all sounds very interesting of course too.

    Thanks!

P.S.: These livestream threads are a great idea😊

Roni Glaser Hey Roni! Thanks so much for commenting on here! I very much enjoyed Irina's answer to your question. Hope you did too!

For everyone watching after the fact: Roni got his question in first, since he asked it in the forums 😉

For future streams, I will definitely be watching the dedicated threads on here - so make sure you comment and let us know what you would like us to address!

Mircea Thanks Mircea! It was very interesting indeed. I found it very interesting how she seemed to have done a few perhaps slightly unusual things, playing in the dark, developing her tone without nails, but when it comes to many things like learning pieces, she came to many of the same conclusions as many other great players - time management, practising slowly, care when practising when tired (I heard that from you Mircea😉). And it clearly works for her. I found how she practises and learns new repertoire just before the concert also interesting - so it is indeed possible to make time for new pieces with a child and a teaching job!

She mentioned using very short fingernails and said there were pictures of them on the Instagram page but I cannot find it.  Can someone post a direct link for me?

Thanks, I've been to the page but can't find the images she mentioned in the workshop.  Maybe I can message her direct.

This video has some closeups of the fingernails. She gets a very nice tone that sounds like the flesh of the fingertip is producing much of the sound. https://www.instagram.com/p/BujLiXQo4FC/

Dean That does seem to be the case - great find! Wow, now I suddenly wish more artists posted super-close-ups of their hands!

Mircea I bought her edition of the Chopin valse that's on the website. It's really detailed with every right and left hand fingering listed.  If there's another workshop I will have a question  about how she is able to repeat fingers in the fast sections so quickly. It's seems impossible for me, but maybe there's a trick or maybe you just need to be super human. haha
