Using office chair for practice?

I keep a CG in the office and play it when colleagues are at lunch or during after hours. When doing so, I use my office chair with arm rests: the latter don't bother me as I sit slightly forward on my chair. I keep a footstool (so that I don't have adjust the height of the chair for guitar playing). I also have additional regular chairs (for colleagues and students who visit my office). So, I can actually use a regular chair, but never feel the need to. I guess, I like being able to roll as I put the sheet music on my desk to read. So no special set-up for me.

Hi Don,  I have used "The Original Guitar Chair" for many years.   I have a bad back, so the support and comfort  was important for me.  This is a very high quality chair.

don Hi Don.  I use a gaming chair (brand name Emerge) that I purchased from an office supplies retail store.  I like that the armrests swing.  So I am able to use the chair without armrests for guitar playing and with armrests when using my computer.  However, the one issue I have with it is that it doesn't rock back and forth like a normal office chair does.  Not sure if it is because I haven't adjusted one of the knobs on the underside or not.  Never bothered to check since its main purpose is guitar playing and I don't want to rock back and forth if playing my guitar.

I did not like using my office chair for the following reasons: 1) I had to remove the arm rests, making it less comfortable for office use. 2) the seat is angled to allow a slight recline during office use which made it uncomfortable to sit on the front edge of the seat for proper guitar posture and 3) I didn't like that that chair swiveled, adding tension during my practice.

I decided to buy a Roc-N-Soc Nitro drum throne. I have have been very happy with the Roc-N-Soc. They are customizable, so you can create one that fits your needs and your height perfectly. For reference, I'm 5"9" so I use a short stool and I prefer to sit up straight, so I don't have a backrest on my seat. You can also set up your chair to swivel or to remain still depending on your preference.

Good luck in your search. You can try out Roc-N-Soc thrones at most music stores, typically in the drumming department. But they are used by all kinds of musicians.
