WEEK THREE Updates: Main Thread - Where the magic triumphs!

Hellooo, everyone, and welcome to WEEK THREE - the final Main Thread for this challenge! 🤩

Why is this thread necessary?

Because the Week 1 and Week 2 threads are now both officially monstrously long 😀 And navigating them can get tricky with the lack of multiple page display.

But Mircea - I hear you say - can we still post in the old thread?

Yes, of course! Feel free to reply to others in the old thread to your heart's content. Just make sure you post any new updates (whether text or video) in this thread instead.

"Oh no, I didn't see this thread, so I posted a new update in the old thread!"

No problem at all! Just tag me (@Mircea) and I'll move your post 😎 These admin powers I got here are actually pretty cool! It turns out I can move individual replies between threads.

Where are the Week 1 and Week 2 threads?

Find the Week 1 thread here! And Week 2 here!

Please use the following format when commenting (feel free to copy & paste!):

  • Etude you worked on:
  • One thing you found easy:
  • One thing you found difficult:
  • (Optional): a video of you performing it!

Sample daily update:

  • Etude you worked on: No. 1
  • One thing you found easy: The polyphony between bass and treble flowed very naturally, I had an easy time playing each line like it belonged to its own voice.
  • One thing you found difficult: I had a hard time creating enough variety throughout the repeated measures.

Feel free to make these updates as short or long as you wish!

Study 13, I found easy the arpeggio and the enhancing of the melody over the repetitive middle voice. The hardest part was to get the andante tempo (that I could not, I will have to keep practising it) and to get a clean sound a tempo on the bar in the one before last pentagram.

This challenge is making me realise how I need studies and technical work if I want to progress...Thank you

    • Emma well done. It sounds really beautiful, I think your tempo is perfect.

Emma I don’t know why I haven’t been able to listen to any of your pieces. For some reason my iPad doesn’t support these types of files. How is it uploaded?

Debbie thank you!  I record it with phone and then pass it to MP3 so it weighs less. I should make a youtube video so you did not have to unload it. or take the recording course...

  • Etude you played: No 18

What was easy: It was very easy to distinguish melody from accompaniment. And the melody couldn't be simpler, at only five notes.

What was difficult: It's hard not to make it sound blocky. Some of the chord changes are hard to keep legato. I would have liked to play the melody with rest strokes, but I still struggle with that.

Eric Well played Eric. I liked very much liked the flow and tempo. I just worked on the same study myself today and I agree that it's difficult to get keep some of the changes legato. I noticed your dog in the background preferred to look out of the window!

    • Ron Yes! Strange how he doesn't really get into listening to guitar music. Thanks for watching!

    Etude I played No 4

What I found Easy: Most of the piece is fairly simple and based round a few chords.

What I found hard: There a couple of awkward moves with the left hand 3 and 4 fingers and making it as smooth as I would have liked.
