Does anyone has any favorite Bach Cello Suite 1 and 5 prelude Guitar performances to reccomend? Was playing around with the apple classical but it doesn't come with the editor's pick for guitar. Thanks!
I would recommend Andreas von Wangenheim, I have always admired his recording of the suites, including the preludes you mention. You can find him on Apple Music.
I love Tilman Hopstocks arrangements for Suite 1- he is also cellist, so he has a lot feeling how to translate it into guitar who lacks the depth of the cello....thus...
Stefanie Mosburger-Dalz Sam Greenblatt I found them both on Apple music. Thank you!
I love listening to John Feeley play Bach. He is Ireland’s foremost classical guitarist, and recently published his arrangements for Cello Suites BWV 1007-1012, which are fantastic. He has performances on YouTube but none on Apple Music that I can see.
John Luffingham thanks! Luckily I found him on youtube!
Hi Don,
David Jaggs recently recorded the entire BWV1007 Suite arranged by Manuel Barrueco. While I prefer arrangements that do not add many notes beyond the original, Barrueco's arrangment is quite interesting and lovely. See David Jaggs YT channel.
Rick Lord Thanks! Interestingly I just listened to Manuel Barrueco's arrangement performed by Gohar Vardanyan on youtube not more than 1 hour ago.
I don't really know much about the original but for BWV1007 Prelude on guitar I think my favorite are Borbala Seres and Andreas von Wangeheim.
