Week 1 assignment description:
Write one short "imitation" piece modeled off an etude by another composer of your choosing by using key elements found in the "model piece."
(For inspiration and some tricks on how to do this, watch the livestream above!)

Howdy everyone
, since it's my first time doing this workshop I hope ya'll are open to a few tweaks now and then in how we do things here in the forums. For instance, I am going to share my model piece first with everyone just to actively show how my process is going for this week's assignment! Feel free to do the same 
I'm just so excited about being able to talk to each other here that I want to keep the conversation going throughout the week. Feel free to contribute or to post when you are ready.
For my "Lost Etude" I am going to do another Brouwer Etude (No. 6) AND possibly also a Presti-inspired etude if I have the time!

I enjoyed a lot the live session and the way things were presented. We beginners are always scared of doing mistakes and not doing it by the rules. But your approach was different.
Kindof... "just relax and express your creativity, then... there will be couple few things/points to take in consideration". Being myself a teacher, I believe that's the way to do it, motivating people and then giving advice instead of having them abid to rigid rules (although rules are important. Someone told me one day: first you have to know the technique. And when you know it, you can "forget" about it).
I'm writing because I already composed a small piece based on Sor Etude No2. Op 35. But, after taking the etude as a starting point, I diverged a lot and what I created doesn't have a lot in common with the original study.
My question is: Is it still valid? Should I post it or should I leave it? Pls let me know.

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the livestream! I think you got the most important message about just "doing" despite our doubts.

JosĂ© EspĂrito Santo Wonderful! I enjoyed that VERY much! It's very interesting in a lot of ways, but at the same time it has this sophisticated simplicity. Very nice, consistent texture throughout with some clever play with contour..fantastic job, JosĂ© :)

I am gonna try to write more, perhaps inspiring on one piece and bringing into the result ideas taken from another. Perhaps joining two very different, one very classical and other not so classical. Letâs see...

Here is my imitation (only the first part so far) of Carcassi's Etude Op. 60 No 16. For fun, I changed the original key signature (F Major) to D Minor and added some arpeggios. In any case, work is in progress.

Things I found easy: "structure" of the piece
Things I found difficult: No notation software automatically changes the key from Major to Minor, so I had to do it manually
