I worked on these a good year or so ago and put together a video of the first three preceded by Prelude Op. 6 No. 14 by Alexander Scriabin. I love the way Scriabin's prelude set the mood for Landslög 1 - 3 and ended up performing this set on a few occasions last year. I look forward to exploring a few more of these exquisite compositions and sharing in the community challenge.

  Rick Lord What a great musical experience that was to listen to those, Rick! The Scriabin does make a great introduction. After hearing you play those so incredibly well, it makes me want to forget about playing the later ones and just go back and elevate my playing of the earlier ones. Don’t tell Gulli, but I think I like your performance of those three pieces more than his (and his performance is outstanding too).

  Eric Phillips Thanks very much Eric. Some of the later pieces are technically demanding. I tend to focus my time on repertoire that I can imagine performing comfortably for others. You have six of them already! I look forward to learning a few more.

  Rick Lord Really nice playing and gorgeous production. I like what you said about focusing on pieces you can perform comfortably for others. I've spent most of my guitar playing years working on material well above my grade and it was only recently that I started focusing on simpler material with a more musical intent. Congrats on your work here.

When I listen to the videos posted, I feel It is a bit like a Pee Wee playing in the NHL... Out of my league. However, Having said that, I will try to learn the #1 as it is such a nice piece.

First... I have to learn to read scores as I am used to tablatures only.

It will be a challenge for me but it will be fun.

Thanks martin for the explanations in the Kick-off . This will be very helpful for me.

  Andre Bernier Andre, as an introduction to reading guitar music, you might consider using the anthologies prepared by Jean-Fancois Decamp, available for free download from his website:

  Volume 1 takes you through the basics, in the form of carefully annotated exercises intended for novices. Many are based on well-known folk songs, which makes learning easier. (Your ear will tell you if you are mis-reading something.) The final section of this volume presents a variety of useful technical exercises.

  Andre Bernier I was a rock guy who read tabs and I took a while before I jumped into reading notation, but I'm convinced the effort was well worth it and it's easier to read in the long run. Some of it may not make sense at first and it's not always intuitive so feel free to ask in these forums if you have questions.

  Andre Bernier don't feel shy because of the more advanced players, this is a friendly challenge for all of us! The first landslogs are approchable if you commit yourself to regularly work on them. Feel free to ask any questions and post updates of your progress and a video once you're comfortable to share.

  Andre Bernier I hear you Andre. I can read, but I still prefer tablature - or at least both. In fact, I started to create a tab version of the first piece, but I decided to challenge myself to just stick with the notation.

Wow, my first Tonebase community challenge! To give it a start I practiced the first two pieces this evening. With all the mistakes, noises etcetera, it was fun. Beautiful music! I share them with you so that you know you don’t have to be a pro to participate here.

And now I will work hard to improve!

  I am working on a video setup. But I must practice in synchronizing audio and video. It was quite a big step for me to record myself and publish it here.

  Bart Versteeg I hear you Bart, I was there 2 years ago and Martin's recording course was the missing link for me. For myself I almost always sync the audio in the video editor as another track in the final steps, what is your current workflow? I'm looking forward to your progress! 👍

  Blaise Laflamme currently I use a Tascam DR40X for audio.
  
  I received a additional set for my birthday: a Scarlett 212 with two Rode microphones for audio and a Canon M50 camera for video.
  
  So now I am testing the microphone setup and try different software (audacity, ableton, GarageBand and reaper) for audio. Next step is synchronizing video and audio-interface (IMovie or Davinci Resolve) Advice is always welcome, because it is a whole new world for me as classical guitar hobbyist..

  Bart Versteeg Oh you have some interesting pieces of gear! In the end it all depends on how you personally feel productive. You can record your audio using your 2 Rode microphones connected to the Scarlett then to the computer with Garageband or the microphones connected to the DR40X and record to an SD card, which I would personally find more convenient, but the converters on the Scarlett are much better, the you'll have better results IMHO. I also have a M50 as my main camera, I get good results with the stock lens. Once you have processed you audio and exported as a file you can synchronize with your video clips in the video editor, that's what I do.   Blaise Laflamme thanks for your input. Now I have find more time! landslög challenge, chaconne, 2nd lute suite, Barrios’ Cathedral, a more than full time job, and now videoproduction on top. Guess I’ll have to stop sleeping 😀

  Blaise Laflamme Hi Blaise, I do not have any microphones or interfaces for my Mac. What would you recommend (it sounds like you are familiar with the gear out there)? Thank you for posting a link to Martin's recording course. This is a whole aspect of learning to play guitar and sharing music that is new and exciting to me (as long as I don't get too carried away with gear and take too much time from my practice!). Thanks.
