🎸🎧What lessons or courses would you like to see on tonebase that aren’t there yet? 🎸🎧

Hey tonebuddies,

Let me know in the comments what courses or lessons you'd like to see that aren't on the platform (yet!).

This could be guitar basics, repertoire, anything!

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Eric Phillips I am glad to see you are still around, Eric! The challenges have been so lonely without your participation - I have not been much help there either.

Nonetheless, I am glad to see you are still around.

Very good idea Eric. This could be the subject of a future Monthly Challenge

    • Jack Stewart Yes, still around, Jack. Just having a few challenges going on that are a bit more difficult than the ones here at Tonebase. 🙂

Eric Phillips Andre Bernier Jack Stewart We are currently prepping a challenge around female composers, but I do agree that we should get more compositions onto the platform!

Here's a wonderful playlist of Women classical guitar composers which is curated by the wonderful guitarist Heike Matthiesen!

Martin Wow! What an amazing and impressive list. I had no idea that there were so many women classical guitar composers.

I would like more courses on pieces transcribed from other instruments. I am currently working on Rameau and Chopin. I would also include Bach's violin sonatas and partitas. Laura Snowden has a wonderful course on BWV 1009 Cello suite #3. I think it would be interesting to have these courses also taught by the other departments that focus on interpretation (rather than technique (which would be instrument specific). Maybe even a collaboration between a guitarist and a pianist or violinist on respective transcriptions.

I would also like more courses on composition. Ashley has held a couple of wonderful livestreams on this. Also it would be great if Steve Goss would contribute in this area.

Finally (I promise... well, probably) I would like more courses on contemporary works. Alexandria Whittington has a great course on Gerhard's Fantasia, and Kostas Tosidis on Ligeti's Cello Sonata is also excellent. More like those would be great.

    OK, sorry...  And Dowlands Fantasia's.

I watched the livestream "Thomas Viloteau: How To Get Your Fingerings To The Next Level!" in which he shared his thoughts on how to approach "La Catedral" fingerings.
I really hope tonebase can invite Thomas Viloteau to make a lesson on "La Catedral."

I know that tonebase already has other performers' versions of "La Catedral," but having Thomas Viloteau's version for comparison would provide a clearer insight into the performers' intentions behind fingering choices.

  • Hi Martin, it’d be great lessons on the Six Etudes by Ida Presti and a comprehensive course on Bach’s Fuga BWV1000.

  • I would like to see a course that would give me the basics of a music education I am not interested in a certificate, just in the musical knowledge that will help me see how a piece should be played.

I would like to learn more about harmonic and melodic analysis of music not just any single piece but maybe a full course on that.

Sometimes when I'm having lesson with my teacher, he would say change this fingering to hold down a particular note or cut a particular note. And it will change how the entire music sound.  He would explain to me why but because I do not have a sound music theory grounding it sometimes just fly over my head.  😂

  • This is going to sound dumb, but nursery rhymes. I feel like you could play numerous levels of complexity following the same nursery rhyme. Kind of like the Twelve Variations on Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman, K 265 by Mozart.

That, and I like playing nursery rhymes for my daughter 😉

The twelve variations actually work really well on the guitar. Would love to see a live lesson on it. martin  Maybe a variation a month?

don Those variations by Mozart are amazing. They work well on guitar in Michael Bautista's hands - I shudder to think what they would be like in my hands.😮

Here is another set of variations on the same theme inspired by the ones by Mozart.

  • Would love to see lessons on Beatles songs arranged for classical guitar. It could be some intermediate level arragments like Beekman´s Beatles for Classical Guitar, or more advanced ones like Takemitsu´s.

I´ve recently watched Laura Snowden´s lessons on Arranging folk songs for classical guitar and really enjoyed. More lessons like that would be really interesting to watch!

How about another In-depth course about guitar recording, a detailed explanation of compression, EQ & reverb, etc. I hope Martin doesn't mind sharing his expertise with us. 😁
