Week 4: Resurrected Rhythms: Celebrating Revived Pieces!

Welcome to the Main Thread for the last week of "Unfinished Business" practice challenge!

  1. Choose an piece that you have started to practice but never fully commited to finish. It could be a an iconic masterpiece, a technical challenge, a sweet little miniature or a piece that you played a long time ago and always wanted to refresh! You're encouraged to experiment with pieces from composers you're not accustomed to or push your boundaries with a technically demanding work. 🎼
  2. Commit to regular practice and share your journey with the community. Aim to practice daily and upload at least two videos per week to showcase your progress. This will not only aid in keeping you dedicated and motivated but also enables you to share your musical journey with our tonebase family. 🎥
  3. Share your favorite piece or recording that you always wanted to learnm but is still "unfinished business". Your submission will serve as inspiration for others and construct a vibrant repertoire of potential pieces for fellow members to explore. 🎧

Here is Waltz #4 from this group.

    • Barney Vals #4 is another of my favorites from this set.  It is sounding really good and fits your playing well and your beautiful tone. My only humble suggestion would be to add more contrasting timbre, maybe alternating a little more between dolce and claro.

Dale Needles Thanks Dale!  I agree with your suggestion, and will add more contrasting timbre as I get into my refining/polishing phase.  At the moment, I'm still in the learning notes mode.  I appreciate your much valued input, Dale!!

    • Barney Beautiful! It looks like it's in a very challenging key for the guitar - lots of barres and left hand gymnastics.

Barney Another great performance of another beautiful piece. I was not aware of this collection of waltzes by Granados. They are beautiful, and quite diverse. They all sound beautiful on guitar, at least in your hands. Thanks for presenting these, Barney

Jack Stewart Thanks Jack!   Granados was amazing, and many were inspired by , and as you said, sound great on guitar.

Waltz #5.  I have three more to go plus the "Melodico" ending.

    • Barney You just keep chugging along, Barney! It's amazing how quickly you get these to this level. I know there is so much more work to do, but your progress is impressive.

Eric Phillips Thanks Eric!  I usually pick a single piece to work on and try to get it to a better performance level before posting.  However, for this multi-part piece by Granados,  I wanted to (at least) learn the notes of each one, and establish a base to work from for refinement later.  Since our friendly Tonebase group is so forgiving, I'm sharing my status for each one at an early stage  with many mistakes, etc.

Barney thanks for sharing your progress on these Barney. It seems like you have a bit more of a handle on #4 for now, but they both sound great. And, I'll bet you love playing these. These are such great pieces, but I've always felt like they're out of my league. Way to go!

I’m not sure if there is any difference from a couple days ago, but here are my two main pieces for this challenge once again. Unless I can make some significant progress in the next few days, this will probably be my last post of the challenge.

Eric Phillips I love the way you played this Giuliani!  It's amazing how this composer does such an amazing job with his "orchestral" like guitar transcriptions.

    • Barney Thank you, Barney. I think I heard somewhere that this opus was inspired by an opera.

    • Spare Machine You can do as you wish. Some play one piece for the whole challenge. Some play more. Totally up to you!

Spare Machine And some (like me!) struggle to get even one piece for the challenge.🙄

Here is Waltz #6.  I will now work on the remaining Valses in the set for posting until end of the Challenge.

Later, I will devote more time to each one to hopefully bring up to reasonable performance level.
