Welcome to tonebase!

Hey everyone - this is Igor from tonebase 🙂!

It's such a pleasure to welcome you as one of the founding members of the tonebase community. Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:

  • Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
  • What are you currently working on?
  • What are you hoping to get out of this community?

I'll go first:

  • While it's hard to pinpoint where exactly I'm from, lol, I just go with Bavaria Germany, and as favorite food, I'd choose Beer (surprise, surprise - closely followed by "Schweinshaxe" - Bavarian Pork-knuckle, which is quite delicious, but sooo heavy that it feels weird calling it favorite food)
  • Trying to keep my Aranjuez in the fingers, even though certainly don't have that much time to practice as during college days...
  • I hope we can facilitate authentic and interesting discussions around playing, learning, teaching, performing the guitar as well as all adjacent topics like concert prep, professional development, auditioning etc...

Now over to you (after some participation from our tonebase team members!)

  • From Iceland so  I do love fish but lamb is also delicious. Tonebase is like a candy shop, so guess I´m in too much, however working seriously on Torroba Sonatina by great teaching from Irena Kulikova. I would like to stabilize my daily practice I do have about four hours of practice time and I would like to maximize my efforts to play better.

Valdimar Thorsteinsson Welcome to the candy shop! :) Check out our thread on practice habits in the "general discussion" section, where we talk about that exactly! :)

  • Hello!! That's really nice!

    • I'm from Brazil, and I think everything that involves Pasta sounds good. :)
    • Still a beginner here, so I'm trying to make Lagrima sound better now.
    • As a beginner without a teacher, almost anything will be useful to me. One really nice feature would be to have a place to publish recordings so I can have feedback from more advanced players.

P.S: The Workshops the Mircea are REALLY helpful to me, thank you very much!

Walter Great to hear you're enjoying Mircea 's workshops! :) There's much more to follow, and stay tuned for the video community we'll be launching shortly to create a place for our members to post their videos / performances for feedback.

Hi all Derek from Kendal in the North West of England my favourite food is whatever is on my plate - Cumberland Sausage is the local speciality but I'd also go for beer - especially Bavarian a nice glass of Weihenstephaner would be nice right now!

I'm working on a few pieces - Barrios, Arabic Caprice, Recuerdo etc but you keep putting new lessons on so I get distracted - so now working through Sons de Carrillhoes and  Milonga by Cardoso with Stephanie Jones!

It would be nice to see what other people are doing and perhaps sharing problems and solutions!

Derek Seems like our release schedule has a distracting effect on you! 😥 I usually don't say this, but maybe 2-3 weeks off tonebase to really focus on the piece at hand..  :)

I’m an intermediate enthusiast and have been playing for over 50 years. Mostly pop rock for the first half until I discovered the beautiful classical repertoire. The last 3 years I’ve built built 6 classical guitars and playing them brings a whole new level to enjoying the instrument.
Living in Vermont I need to shoutout for anything containing maple syrup !

I’ve been working on Bach (Bouree and prelude to cello suite), Scarlatti Sonata in A,  Brower Decameron and some Barrios.

It will be great to share ideas about practice and interesting repertoire. Maybe I can even convince someone to build their own guitar!

Terrell This is so fascinating you've built your own guitars... doesn't happen that often...  wow! Where did you get inspiration from?

  • Hi all !

This is David, I'm Spain and I live close to Barcelona.

    • I'm just trying to catch-up from where I left the music and guitar studies 35 years ago.
    • I'm starting from the begining trying to avoid bad habits and my last piece was Bach's bourree in e-minor 996... next... I don't know where my fingers will take me :)
    • Hope to find help to continue in this path that I hope that this time will not be interrupted... by trying to combine different approaches to the guitar, including but not limited to the classical one... and help if I can .... but honestly I don't know how to !

    • Peter here; born in Winnipeg, now living in Saskatchewan, Canada. Favourite food would be Granny's Bitter (beer) from Bushwakker. Perhaps some Pickerel (fish) to go with it....
    • Working (very slowly) on Tansman's Passacaille.
    • I am not sure what I hope for from the community.

    • I am from the Greater Kansas City Metro area. The land of the Great OZ. My favorite food are tacos, and tamales come in second. There are so many delicious Mexican restaurants here it hard to decide which one to go to.
    • I am a beginner and working on Romanza.  I see so many different scores of it. I keep wondering which one to learn, but I saw the one on tone base and which I will learn. I love the sound of the guitar, a matter of fact I enjoy music so much.
    • I hope to see some progress one day.  So far I do see some progress but I like to at least be able control my enthusiasm when I do play several bars. Perhaps, soon I will be able to complete one page of bars without a mistake.

Ricardo Leaños Big welcome!  :) Try working slowly through the pieces, bar by bar until you really feel comfortable on all changes, RH patterns, LH fingerins etc... Are you finding the lesson on the Romanza helpful so far?

Ricardo Leaños Hello Ricardo. I am just a few hours north of you. in Iowa.  If you can find the Julio S Sagreras guitar method book no. one. His Lesson # 84 goes perfectly with Romanza. It's just another variation of it. If you can somehow get me your email I'd be glad to send it to you.

      Blessings  Eric

  • Hi everyone. I am Eric.

    • I'm from Rochester, New York (USA). We are known for something called "garbage plates" (don't ask) as well as a brand of hot dogs called Zweigle's (which are pretty good as far as hot dogs go). If I had my choice, though, I'd take a plate of spaghetti in clam sauce.
    • I am an amateur firmly in the intermediate level, so I find myself gravitating toward the studies the most these days. Sor is my clear favorite (of course), but recently I'm really enjoying getting into a few of Coste's Etudes de Genre (Op. 38).
    • I guess right now  I'd love to find motivation and insight from others. I am a full-time high school teacher, which is really stressful right about now, and I'm finding serious practice almost impossible at this time. When I do get a few minutes to pick up the guitar, I just feel like relaxing and playing something familiar and beautiful. Maybe this community could give me impetus to dig in more.

Eric Welcome! I hope this community will give you more inspiration to dig deeper in your musical practice? Have you participated in our LIVE events yet? those could be helpful to improve the depth of your practice schedule as we're discussing a number of technical exercises in them!

Eric Phillips I teach high school full time, too, and I find that I am able to fit in 45-60 minutes a day, mainly because my children have all grown up and I have a space for it. I find the focus on guitar is relaxing, even if I'm new to it. It's certainly more fun to play by myself than the bass. :)

    • Matthew Brown Hi Matthew. Yeah, I wrote this last winter, when the classroom situation was really crazy here, and I had almost no free time. Things are a bit better now, and I am able to practice most days. Unfortunately, I still have two teenagers at home, so they keep me busy (but at east I'm not changing diapers). Guitar is definitely my stress relief and therapy! I hope you like Tonebase.

Eric Phillips I'm glad things at school are calmer. So far I am enjoying the lessons -- Ms. Jones' dive into a Brazilian choro is fascinating.

  • Hi my name is Vilio Celli. I have been playing classical guitar since I was 15 for over 50 years but not professionally. I was born in Italy but have lived in Canada most of my life. I love any Italian food. My favourite composers are Giuliani, Tárrega and Legnani. I recently joined tonebase and especially like the live sessions.
