Well, unfortunately I didn't get to post in the first two weeks but I'll try to make up for it. I've been working on Landslog 1,2,3, 5 and 7 (among many other things). I'll just brief on what I find difficult.

Landslog 1: Making sure to play enough beats (i.e. repetitions of the pattern). On the video I think I missed one in the last line. Video attached.

Landslog 2: Finding the rhythm and playing in tempo as well as trying to retain the note for their full value and keeping it sounding smoothly at the same time. Video attached

Landslog 3: Trying to maintain the dynamics. Also I've been playing this occasionally over the last couple of years intending to play it to a decent standard but it's not quite re-memorised English spelling :-)) yet, a couple of little pauses where the memory lapsed.

Landslog 5. As per Landslog 2. Video hopefully to follow

Landslog 7: Trying to count the number of repetitions and changing the right hand for the Tasto, Natural and Ponticello as indicated.

    • Derek very good. You managed to really learn these pieces well,so they are  sounding secure and naturally flowing.  Bravo

    • Derek they are sounding strong and secure already! Do you know why the first one has a lower volume than the others, have you done something different in the post-prod? Also you already have a green screen then you can wipe it out for something unexpected... like your psychedelic concert transmission 😂... good work! 👍

Blaise Laflamme thanks Blaise. I'll do some more work on the pieces before working on the green screen :-). Maybe I'll see if I can dig out a psychadelic shirt from my youth (if it still fits!) for the next video

Derek Really great work Derek, Bravo! I'm impressed with how well you handled the third piece at that speed. Very nice! And I would love to see a psychedelic shirt on you!

On the second piece, I noticed that you rolled all the chords for the first 14 measures of the piece. I'm not sure if you did that deliberately, but I would try playing all the notes of those chords simultaneously. I seem to remember that being a direction of Gulli. Obviously it's ultimately up to you, but I think playing them at one moment (as opposed to rolling them) gives the piece a completely different and airy feel.

  • Still working in #4 - perhaps different to 1-3, working on fingering is a bit more challenging as well as tying the music with the arpeggios.

  • Landslag III - I feel like dynamics is what needs more work - fun to play!

Carlos Calderon Fantastic work Carlos! It looks and sounds like you really have a handle on this one! Great technique!

As for your comment on dynamics, I would just suggest bringing out the bass notes more and let the upper repeated notes be a little quieter. I think this will help you give the notes with written accents more emphasis.

  • I finally managed to record the first three this evening, in hope to let me enough time for #11. Even if they are short and simple they are not easy at all... but so beautiful... thanks Tonebase for commissioning this work, a unique addition to our guitar repertoire. BTW I'm not quite comfortable with spruce and nylon strings yet, but it's coming slowly! 😂

    • Blaise Laflamme this is so wonderful, Blaise. Super bien joué.! Couleurs, dynamique,  tout est là.  You bring out all the refined beauty of the pieces.  I hear what you say about the spruce and nylon - I love this sound, the directness and pureness of it (I'm biased of course) The spruce needs some time to settle then it will share all its warmth and brightness. But anyway, this sound is already so beautiful.

Can't wait to hear your #11

    • Blaise Laflamme Just wonderful playing, tonal expression, and creative production. I love it!  I'm in the process of ordering a new guitar and am leaning toward a spruce double top (played cedar all my life). Let us know how the transition goes with that beautiful new instrument you have!

    • Eric Phillips thank you Eric, I used a kind of dimmed filter for this one... at first I thought about a kind of black&white-ish one but forgot during the process 😅
