I was going to post an update today on my progress of Winter Wonderland, but I just realized that I had some wrong chords and wrong melody notes in my arrangement! 😐 Still working on the arrangement...

Vilio Celli Thank you so much!

joosje Yes! This is what I admired about David's transcription, it really needs a stable left hand to work properly! I could watch his video without sound and it's still beautiful to watch, haha

Martin That was wonderful, Martin. I have struggled with the Parkening version (Rick Foster actually) and this is so much more intricate and complete. You have done an amazing job with it. Beautiful playing.

Update: We had to cancel our Spain trip but things cleared up for us so we were able to take a much shorter trip to Mexico City, which is where I am now. I still don't think I will have enough time when I get back to practice up for the concert, but I will be watching.

martin I'm still practising - had covid earlier in the week so a couple of days off and no chance to video. Still practising the Sor Opus 11 no 5 and Barrios Op 8 no 4. Hope to play one of them for the concert. I'm also working on Coste La Soiree D'Autuiel but I'll save that for the next concert. Frohe Weihnachten, Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to everyone. Ps I like the Bach :-)

  • Sor - Andante Pastorale Op 32 No 3

I've been practicing this a bit over the past week. It's not written as Christmas music, but it reminds me of Barrios' Villancico de Navidad.

I'm also throwing in a little bonus holiday lute music as well.

Eric Phillips Great job, Eric. Beautiful performance on the Sor op. 32.3. Nice on the lute as well.

I mentioned in my comment to Martin that we were able to cobble together a quick trip to Mexico City for a week. I am there now. I don't know if I will be able to recoup my progress, when I get back, before the end of the challenge - I lose ability faster than I regain it.

    • Eric Phillips thank you for this post. I enjoyed both pieces so much. Very relaxing stuff for me after 2 very hectic but joyful  days with our girls and their families. Nice lute setting.  Great Sor…

Eric Phillips I really like the Sor recording, Eric! (And the carol arrangement is certainly charming, and seasonal - as is the setting, although I think your beard is supposed to white!) Very impressive handling of the ornamentation - especially that nasty quintuplet figure! And I see (hear) what you mean - it is reminiscent of the Barrios piece.

Chorale Prelude BWV 645 - Bach

I have been practicing this piece for a few weeks, at first I thought I could handle it, but it was far more demanding than I thought! Obviously, this piece is above my skill level, but I still want to learn it.
I have recorded many takes, this one has the fewest mistakes, but I somehow had a memory slip in a weird place...😭 Anyway, it's always great to be able to share music with you all at Tonebase. Merry Christmas! 🎅

Wai That was beautiful, Wai. I This is well within your grasp, In fact, you are almost there. This is a beautiful Chorale Prelude by Bach and your performance really brings that out. Keep going!

    • Wai I agree with Jack. This sounds beautiful and it is not beyond you at all. Where did you find the arrangement? I have played a simpler version of this piece, but I love this one more.

Jack Stewart Thanks, Jack! I have been struggling with this piece for almost a month! When I practiced this piece without a camera on, nothing happened, but once I tuned on the camera, I would make mistakes on a simple open string note (picking the wrong bass note). Hope that I can record a take without any wrong notes...😵

Eric Phillips Thanks, Eric. The version I played was arranged by a Swedish guitarist Per-Olov Kindgren. He has many beautiful Bach arrangements (not free though) on his own website and his version of Canon in D was sublime. 🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️
