Sor Op.26 Variations (Intro thru 3rd variation)

This a pretty rough draft of Op. 26 (sans variation 4). This seems to progressively fall apart as I proceed thru the variations. I find this a lot more difficult than I had anticipated, though I feel it is getting within range of grasping. The 4th variation is under way and hopefully I can upload a separate video of that soon, though it will be even rougher than this video.

  • This is great, Jack! It gets better each time I hear it. Still some flubs, but overall very musical. I really love that slow variation!

Eric Phillips Thanks Eric. I think of the 3rd variation as the  'Eric' variation. 🙂.

  • Great job Jack! as you said it looks more difficult than one could expect when listening to the music, that's true most of the time with Sor's music. Like Eric said, I very like the slow variation too, lot of great musical substance there. 👍

Blaise Laflamme Thanks Blaise. I do think the 3rd variation is the most interesting musically, though I really like the entire set. It is my favorite set of Variations by Sor.

Thanks for sharing, Jack. Listening to all 3 variations at once was like taking a sightseeing bus through different musical landscapes, I enjoyed it very much. It's impossible for me to play a long piece like this one, but watching your performance made me want to try a longer piece next time.🤔

  • Great job Jack! Wow , this music is so rich and concentrated in its harmonic and coloring intensity. You’re giving it an fine energetic character, which I like very much. The theme being such a simple tune, but there is so much happening in Sor’s  ‘orchestration’… very nice! Looking forward to following your progress.
