I worked on the first section
the chords are fairly standard and easy A minor key
the rasgueado is pretty straightforward but you have to be careful of the direction at times and measure 17 has the most changes.

David Chidsey Thank you for the very first update! Today, we'll look how we can derive the chords from the different manuscripts, that'll be exciting! Measure 17 as the most intrinsic harmonic movement as we are closing in on the first cadence, good observation!

I would like to point out right away that early music is not my favorite style. I have always had trouble understanding it. I just don't feel the "spirit" of this music. Interestingly, I really like to listen to it ...
As for the first section of Marizapalos - the beginning is technically easy. I agree with David Chidsey on bar 17th, it's hard to miss the first string when playing the rasgueado.
In the second section (also technically quite simple), the ornaments on the 2nd and 3rd strings are the most difficult (it is particularly difficult to avoid "hooking" on the adjacent strings). I also have doubts about the tempo (the recordings do not give me enough data - sometimes I would like to slow down, sometimes speed up).

Today practicing on that piece, I found - playing without ornaments in slow tempo is easy. Playing with ornaments makes my brain smoking.
( What is possible on ornamentation, ok - do not play the same ornamentation all the time, double thrills make me crazy.....I´ve never played that 4131 or 3121 ornamentations. But I confess - played a lot of renaissance music in my life - but not one piece had so much ornamentations ! )

I worked on measures 1-27 today to get a feel of the strumming and where I wanted to put the rasgueados. I tried to play them lightly and I still want to work more on that and a few of the chords didn’t come out as cleanly on the recording as I would have liked. Just a simple phone recording for now to mark progress.

Debbie so true! I should be posting too for the same reason! Well done the strumming. Yesterday I was practicing It with nails without nails, trying to make it warm without making it sound like ... well like it still sounds ....

Emma I know what you mean. I want it to sound softer but difficult when you have nails. I tried to play sultasto to give it a softer sound but I need to work on it more. A little every day.

Debbie wonderful!!! The chords have a beautiful flow and you were transitioning really nicely! I see the problem with the nails being too direct, what I propose is to lift your wrist a little bit and not play with the tip but rather with the top of your nail!

Worked on the first and second sections.
I need to play the rasgueados a bit more gently and make sure the direction is correct.
Spent some time researching the ornaments, which I think I'm beginning to understand. Individually they're fine but when they come one after the other I found playing them cleanly more challenging!

Ron I know exactly what you mean. I worked on some of the measures after the chordal section and I may end up with tendinitis. Haha!
