    This is my attempted in practicing the new piece.

    Easy: without ornamentations it is "easy" to play

    Difficult: playing the Ornamentations - also difficult to choose the correct kind of Ornamentation. I am unsure about my decisions... but as Martin mentioned - only starting on Note Ornamentation in early Spanish Music... 🤔

      Olli Awesome!! You really went all-in into that piece, that is a huge progress for the first week! I like the ryhthm and more "straigt forward" feel, as it gives the piece a certain drive! I'd suggest to play that line as it's written in the manuscript, the open 1st string makes it easy to make the shift back into first position!

       

      It is a little confusing as de Murcia is writing the d on the 2nd string as the open 4th string (because those strings sound one octave higher on the baroque guitar), making this line sound very light and airy!

      martin and also Joosje, Derek, Debbie and Gokce - thank you for your Kindly words. The piece needs much time to be developed - especially the Thrills.

      Yes, bar 39 I played in the way the Manuskript is written, but I changed the "f" to "fis" (f-sharp) and because of this played it with finger number 2.

  • I was reading the ending variation today and I really like the Campanella scales! It’s a very difficult passage with all of the 16th notes.  Will keep practicing

  • I am having fun when playing this piece, and never get bored. It is beatiful.

    I have difficulty when passing from 27 to 28, A major in 28 is a little tricky. It is also difficult to control the trill at 73, which usually sounds loud. Ornaments in the last part are very hard to follow, but after practising and some memorization I am sure they will become easier. Although every day it is getting better, one week is not enough for me to play it well at the normal tempo, but it is a challenge and I want to record myself and share before tuesday, even if I suck 😅

      Gokce Turkmendag Awesome, that's the spirit! Actually, I just ditch the 4th string and not play the lower e, among all these trills and ornaments it's okay to adapt certain passage to improve the overall flow!

  • I recorded the last part, measures 55-73. It is getting better in time, but  I was afraid that continuously repeating the trill positions may hurt my left wrist, especially at measure 28, 30  and 59. Therefore I will have a break in the rest of the day. It is also still dificult to control volumes of trills at D and A strings, I don't like how they sound. I still cannot jump from 27 to 28, weird position.

      Gokce Turkmendag Awesome, we can really see how much effort you put into that piece, that's wonderful! It's especially great to see that you really went into the manuscript to play after the fingering that de Murcia is indicating! Especially with the trills I really like to deviate from the manuscript as trilling between the 3rd and 4th finger is really no fun! But you did an awesome job, congratulations, glad that you're so into the challenge!

      Gokce Turkmendag well done Gokce! I know what you mean about the first chord in m28. It’s hard to get the first string to ring out consistently. Your trills are nice and clear and well done doing them with the 3rd and 4th fingers. I cheated.

    • Section you worked on: First Section, up until bar 73
    • One thing you found easy: Repeating over and over again, the piece is really addictive to play! The long harmonic cycle kept turning inside my head over and over again. The mood change in bar 55 is really easy to accentuate as the upper register starts to sing on its own!
    • One thing you found difficult: Although it's stuck in my head I am just not able to play it by heart! Probably because I haven't found time to practice enough this week, hopefully next week will be better (I am learning this piece together with you by the way!). Moreover, my right hand is not set yet, I should really commit myself to a fingering in order to gain security!

    I look forward to explore the next section with you 🧙‍♂️

    • martin great interpretation Martin, thank you for sharing. I often need an example to understand how it should be like. I will try your right hand positions for a softer sound.
