Recording Guitar and DAW Fundamentals

It would be great if Martin could go through it again maybe in a more high level abbreviated version of setup, DAW basics, techniques etc. for the casual user.

Would absolutely love to! With High-Level you mean general basics that apply to every DAW (or maybe even peak in a view DAWs at once) or you mean more advanced techniques?

    • Martin Jumping on Brooke's suggestion, I would like to encourage you to offer something like a "classical guitar recording workflow" - from instantiating tracks, gain staging mics, to basic editing, to rendering. I have questions about using Reaper's normalize/limiter in the render section or whether to use a limiter plugin (i.e. FabFilter L2)  to reach a standard LUFS level for streaming.  Anything you offer with regard to basic recording skills will be well received I am sure.  I learned so much from your original series  -  just what I needed.

Rick Lord Fantastic, those livestreams are always so much fun to do! I love the FabFilter-Plugins, they are currently on  Blackfriday-Sale if anybody is in desperate need of some new Plugins ( Blaise Laflamme ? Gokce Turkmendag ? Barney ?). I have the Mastering-Bundle, for classical music I just need the EQ and the Limiter which are fantastic!

    • Martin yeah I was looking at this too... I'm currently interested in some UAD ones, to work with my Apollo using Unison, and the Fabfilter Essentials bundle would probably be a great addition. However the upcoming purchase of a Visesnut case restrict a bit my budget at the moment 😭

Blaise Laflamme But can your Visesnut-Case do True-Peak-Limiting? Or EQ up to 24 Bands with full Dolby Atmos Support? Asking the real questions here! 😂

General basics, and fundamental concepts to recording.  Not so much the techie side of it, just the essentials to working with Reaper and a mic to computer setup.  Recording, adjustments, editing.   Then follow up and recap with questions or maybe a level 2 course that dives into key aspects of this session 1 in more depth.

  • Excellent suggestions!  I have been waiting for a condensed course/refresher of the Recording Academy course.

Bill Young Brooke Fantastic, I think I'll do a very practical livestream on how to record yourself in January (which is exactly one year after the initial Recording Academy Course!).

That would be great.  I need a kickstart for my confidence to tackle the recording process once again.   Thanks!
