I had posted the 3rd movement of this classic Sonatina by Torroba for an earlier challenge, so decided to post the 1st and 2nd movements for this one. Here is the 1st movement.

Barney Really beautiful, Barney. You always have such beautiful tone and phrasing. Any chance you'll have all 3 movements altogether.? It would be great to hear you play the complete sonatina?
BTW if this is a Sonatina what does Torroba consider constitutes a Sonata?

I believe the "Sonata" would have 4 movements and Torroba used "Sonatina" for the 3 movements.

Marilyn Blodget Thanks Marilyn. This is one of those standard repertoire pieces learned many years ago. It was nice to re-visit it, as the beauty of Torroba's guitar works never diminishes.

So here is the complete Estudio No. 3 (Bicordes) composed by Abel Carlevaro. It is the third study in a set of five Estudios by Carlevaro that were written in homage to Villa-Lobos. This study is also dedicated to Eduardo Fernandez. Maestro Carlevaro gave the first public performance of this piece in San Francisco in 1983. This Estudio was a bit challenging to learn and while it still needs some time to mature, I am relatively pleased with the progress to date after one month of study. The tempo is designated as "rubato" and probably should be played a little faster, which I hope will come with a little more time.

Dale Needles Wow! That was wonderful and so glad you posted the complete study. Your performance demonstrates beautiful choreography of the hands along with nice color and dynamics. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Barney Thanks, Barney. This Estudio definitely puts the left hand through quite a workout, not to say that it is easy for the right hand. I also found that the more that I played it, the more I came to appreciate the musical side of the Estudio with all its bi-chord progressions and dissonant harmonies.

Dale Needles Wow! You played that with such conviction. It stretches my musical palate, but I may become a believer. It was fun to watch your fingers crawling all over the fretboard-kind of like spiders-or half a spider. So clean and expressive!

Marilyn Blodget Jack Stewart Thanks for your kind words. This Estudio was definitely challenging for the left hand but worth the effort. Musically it also quite interesting and grows on you the more you play or listen to it. Now on to his Estudio No. 2, a very challenging arpeggio study.
