  • Hello,

This is my first post on the community forum!!

I missed the first week but I was inspired by Robert to have a look at Un Dia de Noviembre - it's a piece that has come to my attention a few times but i've never had a proper go at it..   So I'm gonna have a go now!

This is where i'm up to so far..   still some way to go, especially trying to get into the B section lol

    • Stefanie Mosburger-Dalz thank you Steffi. It wasn’t so easy to be the first, but then, I could relax and enjoy all other contributions. Yours also. Great…

joosje Indeed, the D major and d minor pieces are so beautiful, too, and challenging. 🙂 I like your suggestion of that practice forum for those pieces!

  • hello all I am continuing to practice Canarios by Gaspar Sanz, trying to play it at a slower tempo

    (120) and having more success at that speed with articulation, dynamics and phrasing. will post video tomorrow.

    • Vilio Celli you have already  done a lot. I would just slow downd more and try to have one tempo and devide it into small sections- for example the beginning try to make three or four bar sections really slow and steady and then connect.  thank you for sharing.

Vilio Celli You have made great progress, Vilio. I agree with Stephanie that it would be helpful to break it into smaller sections, get them smooth and then put them together. I look forward to your progress on this piece.

    • Vilio Celli you have definitely done progress on this. A small advice, take care of the time signature and note length, on some mesure you tend to break the flow on each pulsation not doing 3 equal eighth notes but varying some of them. Continue the good work!

      Like
    • Blaise Laflamme thanks Blaise yes tricky time signatures in this piece 6/8 then 3/4

      Like
    • Vilio Celli indeed! Just ensure all eighth notes are played equally and use the time signature for grouping them as 6/8 for 2 beats of 3 eighth notes and 3/4 for 3 beats of 2 eighth notes. What version are you using, similar to the one on IMSLP?

Vilio Celli Thank you for keeping us posted on your progress. Keep it going! You're doing great. Like I mentioned in my last post, this piece takes a while to get under control.

I've been practising Sor's minuet Opus 11 No 5 since last week (not continuously :-)). Here's a video. A few hesitant moments. Will continue working on it.

I added a little equalisation and reverb to the video using  a program called VideoPlus (I tried to use Da Vinci Resolve but I installed a Black Magic Intensity Pro input/output device recently and now it won't play to my audio interface!) I've also attached another video for your amusement - or for all you lo-fi audio fans-  where by adding the reverb I seem to have got it backwards. Sounds a bit like a Mozart quartet played very badly :-)

    • Derek Definitely an intriguing sound effect 😄 great job so far. Keep going with this fine miniature, why not experimenting a bit more with colours.  Bravo for those parallel 3rds in the B part, I find them quite difficult….

joosje Thank you Joosje. I've always ignored this piece, I have a copy of the music which contains this piece and the no 6 which I have played on and off for a very long time. I started learning no 5 last week and now I have fallen in love with it. As you say, I need to experiment with colours etc. I think it can be made into a short but dramatic piece.

I enjoyed your pieces last night. A good choice and well played

      Like
    • Derek it’s a great choice, this one, indeed can be quite dramatic but always in a  light and playful manner… I remember you played nr 6 in a previous community concert, that sounded great..

Derek Very good start, Derek. You seem to have it pretty much under your fingers. You'll have it smoothed out very soon. Look forward to you next post.

    • Derek good work Derek! Did you have changed any part of your gear in your setup like a new mic, a camera, ...? I don't know about VideoPlus, do you process your audio straight out your video in the video editor?
