  • I've started working on Sor's "Les Adieux" from Sixième Fantaisie pour Guitare Op. 21. Eric Phillips  I think this is one you have played before right? I love it and look forward to the upcoming livestream with Eduardo Fernandez to learn more.  I was recently in Paris with my wife and we got this wonderful photo at Sor's grave at Cimetière de Montmartre. Here is the treasured pic!

Rick Lord Thanks for sharing the photo, Rick. Do you happen to know anything about the monument itself? Was it erected at the time of Sor's death, or is it the work of a later generation? (I would guess the latter.) Just curious.

    • David Krupka I only know that his grave went unmarked until 1934! That grave marker remains at the base of the new one.  I haven't been able to find any info on the new one - but if I had to guess, I would say it can't be more than 50 years old if that.

  • Here is a video I made recently of the first 32 measures.  A bit rough on rhythmic pulse etc. but coming along.  Will update soon after I watch the livestream!

    • Rick Lord Love it Rick! Yes, I did work on this one a bit, but I never really brought it up to performance level. Maybe I'll return to it someday soon. You are off to a great start with it, already playing it so musically. I hope we get to hear the finished product. The last section is a killer (for me, at least, maybe not for you).

Also, I love the picture at his grave! I envy you so much.

Rick Lord Great beginning, Rick. This is a beautiful work and what you have presented so far is amazing. Were my final posts equal to your rough drafts I would be a happy man.

I always enjoy your posts as your performance is at such a high and refined level.

Rick Lord Already sounding good, Rick. I look forward to hearing the complete work! Btw, that's a very nice practice space you have!! (But does your guitar really need all those extra cases!?)

    • JUAN ALONSO Very nice, Juan! I played this piece for my senior recital in 1991, and I don’t think I’ve played it since. Very challenging for both hands.

Looking forward to hearing more Sor from you!
