Please use the following format when commenting (feel free to copy & paste!):

  • Etude you worked on:
  • One thing you found easy:
  • One thing you found difficult:
  • (Optional): a video of you performing it!

Sample daily update:

  • Etude you worked on: No. 1
  • One thing you found easy: The polyphony between bass and treble flowed very naturally, I had an easy time playing each line like it belonged to its own voice.
  • One thing you found difficult: I had a hard time creating enough variety throughout the repeated measures.

Feel free to make these updates as short or long as you wish!

    Hello friends!

Yesterday I practiced Etudes 1, 2, and 4. Today I practiced Etude 1 in order to record it. I decided to combine this challenge to make the opportunity to do take what I'm learning in Martin's recording class and make my first ever audio/video sync. It took all day but I did it!

    • Etude I worked on: No. 1
    • One thing I found easy: I found it easy to sight read and just play it for what's on the page.
    • One thing I found difficult: deciding on where to put rest strokes and overall dynamics. I didn't edit the piece at all. It's one take and there's one thing I would have changed - I clipped the low g in the second to last measure. Not the end of the world but editing would have made the day longer. I will learn as I go =)

Debbie Awesome job, Debbie! Congrats on joining the challenge and thank you for sharing this video with us! 😀 I enjoyed it a lot - especially that beautiful slide up to the F towards the end of the piece, so much fun! I didn't even notice the clipped note you mentioned. Keep it up, hope to see many more updates from you on this challenge!

Martha Kreipke So true! I hope to see more women taking part in these community activities in the future.

Giuseppe Gasparini nicely done! Great video and recording too. I know what you mean about the difficulty being the recording. I hate how time consuming it is but I suppose we can only get better!

Giuseppe Gasparini Great job, Giuseppe!!! Beautiful tone, singing melody, recording quality - just great all around!

Wait though, is that a different guitar from last time? That's awesome 😀 do you have a collection of different guitars at home?

  • I worked on No. 1

It is getting easier to relax while recording. I have been recording something I practice a few times each week.

It was hard to stop notes rather than letting them ring through the rests. I need to keep working on this.

Martha Kreipke Wonderful job, Martha! I loved the regular, "walking" tempo you picked (very "andante"!) and the very in-style rit. you added in at the end. I felt that more comfortable feeling you were talking about absolutely come through!

Unrelated question, do you also play the trombone in the background? 😀

    Worked  on No. 6

1 easy thing:  The rhythmic aspect of this piece is catchy and easy to grasp

1 difficult thing:  Chord at  beat 2 of measure 6;   hard to keep smooth here.
